Shadow and Bone: Meet You in the Meadow (2023)
the directing ruined the episode for me
The directing in this episode was out of place compared to the work the other directors had done in the previous episodes and ruined the episode for me. I am hoping the episode directed by the same director after this does not follow the same pattern. Honestly it took away from the whole episode for me. I know she has directed some great episodes in the past for other television shows but this just didn't do it for me.
I really am worried about the finale after watching this episode. I hope it goes better than this one.
Story telling wise, the pacing of the show was off. I believe a heavy focus on the crows is the only way to carry the story forward as the pacing is better with them and the story is much more compelling.
The Last of Us (2023)
A perfect adaption of the game
I am always nervous when adaptions take place. In all honesty every single video game adaption I have seen has been a disaster, but not this one. I have never been hooked on a show this early on. After episode one I quickly became obsessed with this show and trusted that I wouldn't be disappointed.
I have noticed plenty of differences between the show and the game, but I can understand why those changes were made and appreciate the differences. I know many fans of the game are upset about some differences but personally I enjoy seeing new sides to the story that we didn't get to see in the game.
I thought episode 1 was a great introduction to the world and liked how we learned a bit more information about the outbreak than was given in the game.
Episode 2 was amazing and what solidified in my mind that they made the correct choice for casting. I really do see the characters I fell in love with from the game represented in the show.
Episode 3 was possibly the best episode of a television series I have ever seen. This is probably where the show has deviated from the game the most but I am so happy they did it that way. It brought so much depth to the character learning his backstory.
Although it is different from the game, I have learned to appreciate both ways a story can be told, and I hope other fans can see that too.
