The Shift (II) (2023)
8/10
Very imaginative Book of Job like sci-fi thriller.
8 December 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Angel studios has another winner! This film was an edge of your seat sci Fi thriller. I love it when I don't know what to expect from a film. I can't predict it. A film that is filled with nuggets of scripture and Biblical truths. The big truth here is the fact that evil is not the big ugly thing that others are doing, but the selfishness that lies in our own hearts. That is truly what is at the heart of sin. True evil is the worship of self. But in the culture today it's unrecognizable because it's so prevalent. While as a believer I recognize the scripture references and truths in this film, I don't know if all viewers will get it. The lady that went to this film with me what completely confused.

I love great character development, and for that reason movies end up being long. I understand dialogue gets drawn out for dramatic effect. But this film is excessive on both counts. Story and acting were solid. But the thought in my head after hour 2 1/2 was "wrap it up." I am a movie LOVER, so it's rare for me to have this thought. I was a little confused by Dicaprio s character. Was he mentally challenged? And Deniro played what he always plays, the gangster. I kept thinking a twist in the plot was coming, but being a true story they couldn't do that. Despite those things, it was a good film, not great (which it could have been) And it was a testament to the fact that the human heart is truly evil and desires the superficial things of this world. Horrific what happened to the families that got in the way of this greed.

Predictable

Warning: Spoilers
This movie turned out to be just what I thought it would be. Another movie to make us feel sympathetic to A. I. just because it has a face. I was hoping this film would surprise me and go in the opposite direction for once. It was disturbing on whole new levels however. Are we so desperate for love that a computer is an acceptable replacement for a living, breathing human? Yikes! We are in trouble. The most unsettling thing to me however is the fact that they gave the robots an aura of spirituality. Ok. Not sure how that works. And the child is the savior of the world. Where'd they steal that one from?

Powerful movie!!

Warning: Spoilers
Boy was I looking forward to this film, and it did not disappoint. Me and my four boys were fans of Duck Dynasty and I am a regular listener to their Unashamed podcast. It was great to get the story of their life before all their success. What a great witness to the power of the Gospel to change a life and save a lost soul! Praise God ! It should be undeniable to anyone watching this film. I pray that many have their eyes opened and are drawn in by the Holy Spirit and accept the invitation to give their lives to Jesus. Thank you Robertson family for being vulnerable and open to putting this out there for all to see. Bless you for your example and witness.

Gran Turismo (2023)

Definitely see it in the Theater!!

Summer action film for sure! Adrenaline filled popcorn munching fun! The racing scenes put you right in the action and the director did a fantastic job!! Love movies that are based on real life stories, it makes them much more relatable. I also saw The Hill the same day and ironically they have very similar themes. Young men pursuing their dreams and overcoming ridiculous odds without the support of their fathers. One I loved for it's heart (The Hill) and one I loved for the action (Gran Turismo). But this one is made for the big screen for sure. So if your looking for a fun summer movie you wont be disappointed with this one.

Pulls at the heartstrings from beginning to end.

This movie will take you back in time and pull at your heartstrings the whole time. I thought this movie was so well acted and directed. Love movies that are based on real life events. It makes it much more relatable. I also saw Gran Tarismo which ironically had similar themes, young men chasing dreams that are seemingly impossible and without the needed support of their fathers. While Gran Turismo was a fantastic action movie and a lot of fun to watch, it lacked the spiritual element of The Hill. And dreams die eventually, and what are we left with? The character of Ricky Hill to me was the driving force and the lovable part of this film. The way he respects and wants to honor his dad and their beliefs is so touching and rare. That's what I loved about this film.

A must see for all Americans!!

This is not an entertainment movie, but a true story hoping to motivate people to stand up against the evil of human (esp child) sex trafficking. It is brutal and dark but done tastefully. Not sure why anyone would speak ill of this film. Don't we all want this modern day slavery to end? Hmmm. Makes one wonder about people's motivations.... Bless the makers of this movie, Jim Cavezial and Angel Studios for getting this out despite the odds against them. And it's success brings me hope. Continue to spread the word, invite people and endorse this on your social media platforms. Hopefully the success will enable it to get into more theaters. May the result be that we stand up together and support the agencies trying to end this atrocity. Operation Underground Railroad, Damascus Road and Tim Tebow Foundation are 3 of them.

Pretentious is the word I would use to best describe this film. I kept waiting and waiting for it to get interesting. And it's a long wait since it's almost a 3 hour movie. Cate Blanchett's acting is superb. But you have to work with the story your given, and that was somewhat lacking in my opinion. The plot felt random and disjointed. I was confused and waiting for the moment that wrapped everything up and cleared the confusion. That AHA moment never came. When a movie is over and you look at the person sitting next to you, and you say "yeah. I'd see that again". Or would you recommend it to a friend? That is the ultimate test of a movie. I did neither. The best thing about this movie is the actual musical pieces that were played. Wish there had been more of that.
