Monk: Mr. Monk vs. the Cobra (2005)
Season 3, Episode 11

my favorite Monk episode
23 September 2017
Warning: Spoilers
In the grand scheme of things, Adrian and Trudy had very little time together on screen, but they managed to display great chemistry. This is the episode that cements their on screen relationship.

In addition, I really like the relationship between the Captain and Monk. In the early episodes, the Captain resents Monk but has the utmost respect for him. In this episode, he displays that he is truly Monk's friend and rallies everyone in the SFPD to try and rescue Monk.

I remember the first time I watched this episode on a Friday night on USA and I cried at the end of the episode. Each time I see the episode now I know the ending but I still cry.

Star Trek: Who Mourns for Adonais? (1967)
Season 2, Episode 2

All hands on deck
3 July 2008
This is all in all a pretty good episode. All members of the original cast appear in this episode and a couple have pretty good roles. I always enjoy when Checkov has some lines as he is a solid contributor and he is intergral in this episode. Scotty is prominent as well but is a bit on the annoying side as he not using good judgement.

The Greek god Apollo is the foil in this gem and Kirk and company eventually break him down and defeat him. Nice build up on what made the Greek gods tick and how they eventually died off with only Apollo holding up hope that his minions would eventually return.

In the end, the combined efforts of Kirk and landing party on the planet and Spock back on the Enterprise working independently to sort out the challenge and prevail.

Star Trek: The Tholian Web (1968)
Season 3, Episode 9

Solid Episode
29 April 2008
Warning: Spoilers
One of my favorite aspects of the series is how the Enterprise is always the second starship on sight coming in just after the first has met their demise. (Doomsday Machine, Immunity Syndrome etc...) Here the unlucky starship is the Defiant which is still in tact but the crew has gone mad. Our heroes beam over to the defiant in some cool looking space suits. Seemingly the crew of the Defiant has gone mad and killed each other due to the proximity of the area of space that they have entered. Chechov ventures to the lower decks and upon returning to the Enterprise is afflicted with the same madness.

Of note is that Kirk is lost when the Defiant is sucked in to inter space which apparently exists when two galaxies overlap. The task is now to get Kirk back and the other members of the crew are allowed to shine in Kirks absence. Spock is in command and McCoy is his foil until they watch a recording Kirk has left for them.

Scotty of course in in engineering working his magic and McCoy is able to remedy the madness problem. Spock shows a somewhat human side when he welcomes Checkov and Uhura back to their positions on the bridge.

All in all a good episode.

Why didn't communicators come with some sort of voice mail function?

Bear gets it done
14 August 2007
The basic plot is Bear parachutes himself into a secluded wildlife area and is there until he gets himself out. The camera crew is along for the ride so he is not as secluded as he could be but he is out in the middle of no where with only his wits, a canteen and a flint to get him through.

Behind the scenes, a ton of research is completed on the area of challenge and Bear is the beneficiary. He can speak smartly about the area and gives wonderful bits of information that he works into his commentary.

All in all, a very good show, very enjoyable, some humor, good bits of information.

ready for cult classic status
10 August 2007
This movie was a very good effort. Matt Dillon plays David, the bank employee coming up on his two year review expecting a bonus and paid benefits but is fired instead. Things start really head south for him after that. He endures a day that continually gets worse from there culminating is a ten minute ending where there is surprise after surprise strung together.

Steve Zahn as Jack is simply outstanding and Dave Foley delivers an underrated effort. In particular, the exchanges between these two are priceless.

Jay Leggetts' character Dorff was both odd and hysterical and his interaction with Jack was very good.

A special shout out to Jenna Fischer as the hooker Misty whose exchange with Matt Dillon in the hotel room still has me laughing. Otherwise, the efforts on the part of the female leads was lacking.

All in all this movie is in my list of "drop everything" when it is on to watch. At the end of the day there are a couple subtleties that have me curious regarding David. He does a couple things in the movie that left me wondering if he was trying to do the right thing or mess with someone else?
