The Little Mermaid (2023)
Easily the best remake so far
This version of the little mermaid was easily the best of the remakes so far. They added some new things without trying to change too much, Bailey's performance was fantastic and the chemistry between her and Hauer-King was believable which made you want them to succeed even more. This is also the most I've enjoyed a Melissa McCarthy performance in a really long time. There were a couple changes that seemed unnecessary like Ariel not being able to remember she needed to get the prince to kiss her but otherwise most of the changes were for the better if they were noticeable at all. I know a lot of people complain about the lighting under the sea and everything but I think it was colorful and bright when it needed to be to show what Ariel was missing out or going to be missing out on with the land and the sea. I understood the saturation choices for the different scenes. The CGI was off putting at times but it didn't take too much suspension of disbelief to move past it.
Sirens (2014)
Should have gone to streaming
This show was one of the few American shows that did banter well. The characters were all complex without being overly complex for no reason and the relationships were well fleshed out without having to spoonfeed us everything. This show would have done so much better on streaming but unfortunately it was just before that was common. Even years later this is one of my favorite shows to go back and rewatch and every time I go to Chicago I smirk a bit when I pass by roads regularly featured in the show. If you like inappropriate quips, pop-culture references, with the right touch of heart, this is a good show to watch. Highly recommend it.
