Secret Invasion: Home (2023)
Quite underwhelming
When I saw the run time on Disney +, I was worried that this finale Would not be able to Wrap up the story line in a satisfying way. Unfortunately I was right. This episode left more questions than answers whilst also failing to build any real stakes. The scene in the hospital with the president Fury and Rhodey Could have been so special had we not known that Rhodey was a Skroll. The twist with G'iadh also felt very predictable And the editing didn't do anything to add tension to either scene. I felt like I had seen the CGI fight scene 10 times already in the MCU. There is also a major plot hole in relation to Gravik In that previous episodes make a point of showing us that he has the power to heal himself. The development of the war against the Skrolls was very annoying in that we have no idea when it will be resolved. With all of the Different MCU projects it is impossible to Be excited about any future appearance from characters or plot points from the show as we could be waiting years to see them appear again. This happened with Wandavision for example as there is still no explanation for why Quicksilver appeared in that series over 2 years after it finished. At the beginning of phase four I was very invested in seeing how these characters and stories tied in with each other, now I am very worried that they will never will and that Marvel will continue to rush its projects and create countless more forgettable films and TV shows. While enjoyable in parts this series and its finale ultimately fails ease my concern.
Secret Invasion: Beloved (2023)
A real step up from episodes 1-3
The balance between softer dialogue and fierce action works perfectly, this episode keeps you hooked from start to finish. The opening flashback scene is a great way to set up conflict that we see later on and I feel through these 4 episodes we've seen a much more indepth dive into Nick Fury as a character than in any previous marvel project. Samuel L Jackson once again manages to show a great range of emotions in his character and this is worth watching alone The final few minutes are very griping and we get to see fury face an extreme test. The villains also have standout moments. Has me very excited for the rest of the season.
