The first one made me jump. This one made me laugh.
17 February 2003
The first Final Destination was excellent. It was well-written, well-acted, well-executed. It focused more on the story than it did on the killings. Final Destination 2 was excellent in a different way. It was well-written, well-executed, and focused on the blood and guts. Notice I didn't mention the acting, which was for the most part, MST3K-worthy.

Story: 9/10. The story was very good. There were no inconsistencies from the first movie, and at least they had a very good reason for not using most of the original cast. Anyone who saw the first movie would know why. Kimberly Corman (A.J. Cook) has a premonition that there's going to be a major pile-up on the freeway. Like in the first movie, she stops her car in the middle of the street, preventing the people who were SUPPOSED to be involved in the pileup from being involved in the pileup. Her premonition comes true, and a rift is caused in death's design... again. Clear Rivers (Ali Larter), being the sole survivor of the first movie, becomes the experienced know-it-all who gives advice to the doomed people, who begin to die bizarre deaths, just like in the first movie (only bloodier)

Characters: 3/10. Many of them were unoriginal. One of them is a hardcore druggie. Really, where have we seen that before, besides almost every movie in the horror genre?

Acting: 4/10. A.J. Cook's performance was decent, as was Ali Larter's. The rest actually made the movie laughable, especially Terrance "T.C." Carson, who I found to be unintentionally hilarious.

Execution: 10/10. The blood and guts spilled in this movie make it too good to be bashed, especially when the entire audience cheered whenever someone died. I awaited the deaths of the characters like one would await an FMV sequence in a Playstation game. The movie was executed so well that as much as I try, I can't hate it.

Final Destination 2 fails to live up to its predecessor, but can we really name more than two sequels that do? In all, while I DID laugh at the movie, it was very good.

Final Score: 6.5/10.

Pulp Fiction (1994)
10/10
Royale with cheese.
17 February 2003
Pulp Fiction was an excellent movie. Quentin Tarantino showed us filmmaking at its best. Well-written, well-acted, well-executed.

Story: 10/10. We're watching several stories at the same time, and in one way or another, they're connected. I can't say too much without spoiling it, so I won't.

Characters: 10/10. The characters are so diverse, yet they fit into place.

Acting: 10/10. With talent like Tim Roth, John Travolta, Samuel L. Jackson, Ving Rhames, and Uma Thurman (and Phil LaMarr), do I really have to go into detail?

Execution: 10/10. As said before, Pulp Fiction is filmmaking at its best.

Pulp Fiction was great. There's really no reason to explain it. It just is. Hands down.

Final Score: 10/10.

Spirited Away (2001)
10/10
I have been spirited away.
15 February 2003
This movie reminds me why I love anime so much. Sen to Chihiro no kamikakushi (AKA Spirited Away) is everything an Anime should be and more.

The animation was so beautiful (still not comparable to the 99.9% realistic animation in Final Fantasy, but that's an entirely different area). That environment was breathtaking.

That's the beautiful thing about this movie. From now on, when I think about Great Anime, I will look at Spirited Away, and THEN Akira. This movie deserves the Oscar for best animated film. 10/10.

Goodfellas (1990)
10/10
Kinda makes you want to be a gangster.
12 February 2003
Goodfellas is without a doubt one of the best movies of the 90s. In fact, I rank it up with the Godfather. It is one of the best crime movies ever. Martin Scorcese has shown some excellent direction in this movie.

Ray Liotta was excellent, Robert DeNiro was excellent, Joe Pesci was excellent. This movie has some of the best casting I've ever seen.

The story was great, and the execution of the story added to it. Goodfellas is a great movie. IMDb thinks so, AFI thinks so, I think so too. 10/10.

Chicago (2002)

That's Chicago.
8 February 2003
Chicago is without a doubt one of the best movies of 2002. Right now, I think the Academy Award is going to come down to The Two Towers and Chicago.

Reneé Zelwegger, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Richard Gere, and Queen Latifah all surprised me. I had no idea any of them could sing. Catherine Zeta-Jones did an excellent job disguising her accent. I LOVE CATHERINE ZETA-JONES!

The style of this movie was very original. It constantly switched to the stage to give it the authentic Broadway feel.

Chicago was an excellent movie, and very worthy of an Oscar. The performances, music, story, and cinematography makes this one of the best movies of 2002. That's Chicago. 10/10.

If you're still wondering how he eats in breathes, it's still just a movie. Relax!

I love MST3K. Luckily, I recently got a hold of the movie. This time, they take a supposed "stinker" called "This Island Earth". Apparently, this is one of the better movies that have been MST3Ked (albeit still not too watchable without MST3K's protection).

I laughed. This movie was so funny, the effects were so crappy, and the commentary by Servo/Crow/Mike really added on.

If you are an MST3K fan, this movie is for you... obviously. If not, I suggest you get acquainted with the series first, might I suggest watching the episodes: Pumaman, Space Mutiny, or Mr. B Natural. Mystery Science Theater 3000: The Movie is worthy of a cool 10/10.

Lacks the Ring's lasting appeal, but it's an effective jumpfest.
5 February 2003
Darkness Falls was not great. That's evident. However, Darkness Falls was NOT bad. This movie deserves better than a 4.8.

The thing about this movie was not that it was scary. I will sleep quite easily tonight. However, it leaves you in suspense. I knew going into this movie it wasn't going to be as scary as the Ring. Darkness Falls DID an excellent job at getting me to jump though. I jumped often. I was also at the edge of my seat.

The story wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. I mean, come on, the tooth fairy? The story actually ended up being quite good.

The actors were pretty obscure, but they were excellent nonetheless, even the kids.

If you like movies that make you jump, go see Darkness Falls. If you don't, you shouldn't be watching horror movies. 10/10.

You better lose yourself in the music, the moment, you want it, you better never let it go.
4 February 2003
I was never interested in this movie. Lately, the general professional-singer-with-lead-role-in-a-movie thing has been disappointing *cough*CROSSROADS*cough*. However, this movie was anything but disappointing.

Eminem's acting was very impressive. What can I say? The guy can act! Then, there's Kim Basinger of Batman fame. She owned that movie. She made that movie as good as it was.

The story is good. The music is good. This isn't one of those disappointments *cough*ON THE LINE*cough*. It's very good, and well worth it. 9/10.

The title says it all
3 February 2003
Everything that can be said about this movie is said in the title. This movie, as awkward as it was, was a beautiful movie.

Kevin Spacey's performance was brilliant, as was Annete Bening's. Thora Birch was great. To think, that's the same little girl from Hocus Pocus. I LOVE MENA SUVARI. Chris Cooper probably had the best performance in this movie.

This movie was a work of art. It's no wonder that it won an oscar for best picture of the year in 1999. 10/10.

The Fast and the Furious is one of those action-packed rollercoaster thrill rides that seems to be lacking in today's movies. The cars looked awesome, and the action scenes were unlike any other.

Vin Diesel did an excellent job in this movie. Although a couple of times, his voice lost it, he maintained a pretty good character. Paul Walker was pretty cool. I LOVE MICHELLE RODRIGUEZ!

This is one of those movies you just HAVE to see. It has a good story, awesome visuals, good acting, and pretty good music. The Fast and the Furious is a very impressive movie. 10/10.

It's a Wonderful Movie
29 January 2003
"Every time a bell rings, an angel gets its wings." An angel certainly DID get its wings. It's a Wonderful Life is a beautiful Christmas classic that stands the test of time.

James Stewart of Mr. Smith Goes to Washington fame paired up with Donna Reed. A very nice casting decision by Frank Capra.

The reason this movie is so great is the fact that it shows us that life without us isn't exactly what we THINK it would be.

If you are depressed or are contemplating suicide, this movie will somewhat cheer you up.

Yes, sir. An angel got its wings. A perfect 10/10.

STEEE-RIKE!
28 January 2003
Bowling for Columbine must be one of the greatest documentaries I've ever seen. It had a little bit of lightheartedness, along with a bunch of serious themes. A very well made documentary, and let's face it, you gotta love that cartoon.

There's really not much I can say about Bowling for Columbine. If you haven't seen it, and you are interested in political subjects (particularly gun control), by all means see it. 10/10.

Kung Pow is Gnodab!
28 January 2003
I was never interested in seeing Kung Pow. The trailers were a complete turn-off. When I saw it recently on Cable, I found that some idiot and marketing decided to take the stupidest scenes in the movie and implant them into the trailer. That was a stupid move. This movie actually turned out to be decent.

Obviously, Kung Pow is not the best spoof ever made. Not by far. You want to go with the big name slapsticks, go with Naked Gun, Airplane, Spaceballs, Blazing Saddles, etc. Kung Pow doesn't hold a candle to those movies.

This movie had some incredibly stupid scenes. I hated Toungy. The cow fight scene should have been cut out, and there was some other stuff that was too wacky for the movie's own good.

The dubbing was great. The dubbing made the movie as funny as it was. What this movie lacked in visual gags, it made up for in wit.

All around, I'd be willing to spend the 8 bucks to see Kung Pow. Unfortunately, it is no longer in theaters, and I have already seen it anyway. However, I WILL be paying to see Kung Pow II. Overall, not badong at all. 6/10.

Catch it. You Know You Can.
27 January 2003
I am in no way a Leonardo DiCaprio fan. I don't like DiCaprio. His performances on Titanic and Romeo + Juliet were less than satisfactory. I saw this movie for three reasons: Hanks, Walken, Spielberg.

DiCaprio surprised me. His acting was actually quite believable. Even though he's a 30-year-old playing a high school student, He seemed to fit the part. Tom Hanks and Christopher Walken did not surprise me. I knew they could act before I saw this movie.

The presentation lost this movie 2 points. It was presented as a comedy. Maybe I should have known that "Comedy" and "True Story" is a very unlikely combination. It had its funny moments, but Catch Me If You Can was actually pretty serious.

Anyway, Spielberg gives us another movie worth seeing. Catch Me If You Can was a very well made movie. 8/10.

Rear Window (1954)

Thriller of the century
27 January 2003
Rear Window was a very good thriller. Alfred Hitchcock's movies have a history of being entertaining, and Rear Window was no exception.

James Stewart was an excellent casting decision. After his excellent performance on Mr. Smith Goes to Washington, Stewart has proven himself worthy in the industry.

The movie was pretty thrilling. I was actually at the edge of my seat telling Lisa not to go in there. Yes, I succumbed to that.

Anyway, there's not much I can say. Rear Window is a great movie. 10/10.

Let us never speak of this again.
20 January 2003
The Master of Disguise crosses the thin line between stupid-funny and just plain stupid. I laughed twice, and I had to force myself to laugh.

Dana Carvey's impressions were perfect, but in no way hilarious. Even the "turtle-turtle" scene ended up being overdone.

Then there are the fart jokes. As if the movie wasn't lame enough, they had to make the bad guy some dude with a lot of gas. It's been done. It's been done MANY times. It's not funny anymore. I kept praying that it would stop, but they had to insist on butchering this movie with the farts.

The trailers were very amusing. I guess that's why they call it the Master of Disguise. It disguised itself as a funny movie. Kids will find this movie hilarious. YOUNG kids. If you are above the age of 8, this movie is not for you. I think my IQ may have been lowered by watching this movie. It's not worth spending time or money on. If you happen to see it on cable, and you find there is absolutely nothing else on that is remotely interesting, I suggest you read a book. I'm sorry Dana. Even the best of us have misfires. This was yours. 1/10.

OR: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love The Clone
4 January 2003
Star Wars Episode II - Attack of the Clones. It was a visual masterpiece. The special effects themselves raise this movie up to a new level. However, to see the history of the original trilogy take shape REALLY added on to this excellent movie.

Hayden Christensen had his moments, but for the most part, he REALLY needs to work on his acting. He held back on this movie. Ewan MacGregor is a very talented actor, and he does much justice to Sir Alec Guinness. Samuel L. Jackson really got to show off his talent (not like he needed to) in this movie. Natalie Portman, I just hope they DO pick her to play Alice. I LOVE NATALIE PORTMAN. I really don't see everyone's problem with Jar Jar. Come on, guys. He wasn't THAT bad. I LOVE JAR JAR BINKS. Christopher Lee as Count Dooku... Did this have anything to do with the fact that he played Saruman the White? No matter. He still did an excellent job.

John Williams once again filled the screen with his beautifully composed music. Keep it up, John.

I don't see why people are looking down on the Phantom Menace and Attack of the Clones so much. The entire saga is on my list of favorite movies, and Episodes I and II should be regarded as part of the saga. They are on my list. 10/10. The force is strong with this one.

Ghost Ship (2002)
3/10
Take Event Horizon, make it predictable, drop it in the ocean, and there's your Ghost Ship.
3 January 2003
I did not like Ghost Ship. I loved Thir13en Ghosts, and I loved House on Haunted Hill, but I didn't even LIKE Ghost Ship. Ghost Ship was highly predictable, horribly clichéd, and a cheap clone of Event Horizon (which was an excellent movie, by the way).

The little girl who was SUPPOSED to be eerie wasn't eerie at all. In fact, I was beginning to wonder whether or not she was a ghost. The movie itself failed at being scary. I don't usually hate horror movies for not being scary (most fail at scaring me anyway), but the thrills were extremely mild. The suspense factor isn't where it should be.

Then there are the characters. There's one character whose death is certain 20 minutes before it happens, and you can even accurately guess how he's going to die.

The only scene I really liked in Ghost Ship was the beginning sequence, which happened to be a VERY good introduction and explanation to why the ship was haunted. However, the rest of the movie dragged on.

I thought this movie would be similar to Event Horizon. It was TOO similar. The movies have plots that are almost identical. Ghost Ship changed a couple of things around, but I have my suspicions. If you want to see the same story done a thousand times better, see Event Horizon. Ghost Ship was MST3K worthy. 3/10.

Big Fat Greek Laughs
3 January 2003
My Big Fat Greek Wedding was a hilarious movie. It's no surprise to me that they're making a sitcom out of it, and as long as they don't ruin it, I'm alright with it. The movie itself has topped the box office for months, and that, too, is no surprise. Romantic comedies have never been that good.

I've never seen Nia Vardalos' talents before, but she pulled off an excellent performance. Michael Constantine made a great European father, and was responsible for a large percentage of laughs. Lainie Kazan also played a very funny character. John Corbett also deserves praise. N'Sync's Joey Fatone surprised me with his ability to act.

All in all, My Big Fat Greek Wedding was a hilarious, accurate, fun movie that everyone could enjoy. I look forward to the sitcom. 10/10.

Ferris Bueller for president!
1 January 2003
Ferris Bueller's Day Off is known all over as a modern classic. It's true. When we talk about modern classics, this movie has to be mentioned. Teen movies are looked down upon because most of them don't live up to this one.

The actors obviously weren't taken from the cast of Dawson's Creek, they didn't dig into Beverly Hills 90210, or Party of Five. They took real actors. These actors took on some hilarious roles and delivered.

The music took me back to the 80s, the decade of my birth. I am only one year older than this movie, after all. Not only that, that Ferrari kicked ass! They don't make cars like that anymore.

If you hate teen movies, this will be an exception. If you love teen movies, you will soon see them as inferior to this one. Ferris Bueller, you're my hero. 10/10.

High Quality Photos
31 December 2002
I have been a Robin Williams fan since his performance in Mrs. Doubtfire. After that, I have cherished films like Hook, Jumanji, and Patch Adams. There's no denying that Robin Williams is an incredible actor, and he brought life to One Hour Photo.

One Hour Photo had a decent story about an old man obsessed with a family. He knows everything about them because of the pictures they bring in. It is an interesting story. Nothing that can win it an oscar for best picture of the year, but it's good nonetheless.

Robin Williams shone through in this movie. A film critic (I forgot who) called this movie Robin Williams' finest hour. This may be true. Robin Williams didn't need to prove to us that he is a great actor, but he proved it to us anyway. Even though he was the antagonist, you feel some sort of pity for him, and even want him to succeed.

The movie was actually really good, overall. It's not an epic movie, and it doesn't meet the overall greatness of Silence of the Lambs, but it's worth spending 8 dollars to sit down and watch. It's a very entertaining movie, so I give it an 8/10.

Hello, Clarice.
30 December 2002
I just finished watching the movie the entire way through. I have seen bits and pieces of it, but I never got to watching it the entire way through thanks to it being on "family friendly" TV, thus cutting out all the good stuff.

By good stuff, I mean, really good stuff. This movie is a heart-pounding edge-of-your-seat thriller with the talents of Jodie Foster and Anthony Hopkins.

Howard Shore was also responsible for the soundtrack. I am very familiar with his work, and this soundtrack didn't fall short of what he could do.

The story was breathtaking. I really have never seen anything like it. The movie itself was incredible. I give it a 10/10. Goody, goody.

Thir13en reasons to see this movie.
28 December 2002
1. Even though it's not very scary, it leaves you in suspense.

2. It's written by Robb White (House on Haunted Hill).

3-6. The excellent performances of Matthew Lillard (Scream, Scooby Doo), Tony Shalhoub (Men in Black), Rah Digga (The Outsidaz), and Shannon Elizabeth (Scary Movie, American Pie).

7. Very few clichés (There are a couple, but not too many).

8. It has some disturbing images.

9. It's fun to watch.

10. It's original.

11. It's better than alot of other ghost movies.

12. If you like to jump, you will jump.

13. The thirteenth reason is not yet a reason. A reason has to be made by someone who likes ghost movies. If you like ghost movies, sacrifice some time and go see it. 10/10.

Impressive... Most impressive...
27 December 2002
There's a good reason that the Empire Strikes Back is the movie that is most commonly referred to. It is quite possibly the best movie in the series. It has what could possibly be Hollywood's most famous line ("I am your father."), and introduces the character EVERYBODY knows and loves, Yoda.

Mark Hamill did very well, Carrie Fischer was impressive, and Harrison Ford... really, does he EVER do a bad job?

John Williams is without a doubt the greatest composer of our time. There is not one person who doesn't recognize the Star Wars theme, and the rest of the soundtrack was great.

I am a huge fan of the Star Wars saga, so it's no surprise I'm giving this movie a much deserved 10/10.

Spider-Man (2002)
10/10
The best superhero movie since Batman.
26 December 2002
This movie was incredibly hyped up, then put off for some time due to some sensitive material, to be hyped up again. This movie didn't let me down.

Tobey Maguire fit the part very well. He just had the look. I am in love with Kirsten Dunst, so there was no doubt in my mind that she was going to do great. Willem Defoe even made Speed 2 exciting, so again, there were no doubts.

Danny Elfman may have ripped himself off for the soundtrack, but it still wasn't bad.

Spider-man is one of our most recent classics. 10/10. This is our gift... our curse...
