The Last Place on Earth (1985)
Thoroughly made mini-series, with accurate facts
After reading the the diaries of both Amundsen and Scott from this expedition, I firmly believe this mini-series is a masterpice.
There is no other depiction out there, still, to match this.
There have come newer information in recent years, that backs up alot of the happenings here, like the interesting relationship between Kathleen and Scott. Nansens role, after reading his love letters he sent after they had their first romantically adventure, really is the icing on the cake.
I can understand the bad reviews from people who thinks Scott is being wrongfully shown as a bad leader of his men. That only made me urge to read his fantastically written diaries. I can see how he could be wrongfully percieved. But I can also see in what way Scott was wildly different in the way he tried to lead his men. Which unfortunately didn't go as he had hoped.
Amundsen had many faults, and made many mistakes, but he was the first man to the South Pole. This is the story of these two great men, in the search for something they both were willing to sacrifice both lives and heritage for.
