A horse in the bed! Funny!
14 September 2007
This cute, little short film is so funny and "out there"!! I love the idea of bringing the horse home as a pet! And what will happen when the horse grows up...? The mother is so adorable! This film is actually a "special" feature on the "Ne Quittez Pas" DVD (which is a very touching film). I was laughing when I saw "Merlin" because the story is so imaginative and bizarre! And the ending... Oh! (But I won't spoil you the ending of course!). Why don't Americans make short films anymore for the theater, before a feature starts? That would be a great idea! It would be better than commercials, that is for certain. I hope that short films be re-instated soon in American cinematic theaters, like this one!

Fantastic Short Film!
14 September 2007
I had the pleasure of seeing this film on the "Alberto Express" "specials" option on the DVD. It is great! I loved it! It is an inside look at the casting process, and also it is an inside look on "What is love"? And can the perfect couple be masterminded, or "casted"? Or are these things just best left naturally to happen? I think that the lead actor of this story is WONDERFUL! Who is this guy, and what is he doing now? Also, the direction is fantastic too. But what else can you expect from Arthur Joffe (Yes, I am a BIG fan of his films!) I hope that he finally will come to America one day to grace us here with his movie-making know-how! He is like the Spielberg of France, that's for sure! It is just too bad that France does not like their own French filmmakers competing with that of America's. The French snobby "cinema control" aristocracy should give this director the respect and exposure that he deserves. The sad part is that most people in America don't realize how French Cinema is controlled by a small snobby few, and dictate what gets released WELL or NOT. I thought France was a FREE country, like America?

The film is a gem.
14 September 2007
This film is very beautiful, and Sir Ben Kingsly acts outstandingly. The film is huge in France, and with good reason. It is an intriguing, unique, and magical film. The film is on French TV I hear like every other week, still to this day! PS Don't be thrown off by the title, the film is, in fact, a sincere love story. I think it deserves a re-release in theaters in America. The only critique I have is the orchestrated music, which is a bit melodramatic. But other than that, the cinematography is beautiful, the acting is subtle and brilliant, and the direction is excellent. I suggest to rent it! Voila! I think that it is a breath-taking film.

Castellitto and Joffe= Success!
14 September 2007
I gotta say, the best work Sergio Castellitto has ever done has been with French director Arthur Joffe (Ne Quittez Pas, Albreto Express, Que La Lumiere Soit). Joffe brings out the best in Castellitto, heck, in fact, he practically discovered the guy!! Thanks to Joffe, Castellitto has emerged as one of the most outstanding actors from Italy, if not in the world. I suggest "Alberto Express" to everyone expecting a child, both men and women. It is a funny, charming, fantastic and exciting story! BRAVO to Arthur Joffe and Sergio Castellitto for making an unforgettable and touching film! If you like their collaboration, then go see "Ne Quittez Pas" (Local Call)!

Ray of light, ray of hope!
14 September 2007
This film should finally be released in America. In fact, there should be an American remake, yes! It is such a charming, hopeful, witty and entertaining film, for all ages. I am surprised it wasn't ever released in America(!) IT SHOULD BE! Sorry, but I just don't see the French market as appreciating and giving worthy respects to such a fantastic and imaginative film from a French Filmmaker of their own (they seem to only give recognition to American filmmakers in this respect). But trust an American viewer, if you want to see an uplifting film, without any violence or profanity, the kind of film that leaves you smiling on your way out of the cinema, go see "Que La Lumiere Soit", (Let There Be Light). I am sure they sell it on the internet. Remember, if you live in America, make sure you buy one of those Multi-Standard DVD Viewers, because if you don't have one already, you are unfortunately missing out on so many wonderful foreign films, like this one here by the Great Arthur Joffe.

The most unique, innovative storyteller from France.
14 September 2007
The French cinematic "authority" are supposed to know good Cinema, aren't they? Yes, they appreciate all the Hollywood American films; they stand in awe of their fantasy and imagination. But my question/concern is: Why don't the French appreciate this same imagination and uniqueness within THEIR OWN filmmakers? Arthur Joffé is a French director/writer who is a fantastic and incredible storyteller, and yet it is so very unfortunate that he doesn't get the recognition that he so rightly deserves! Please Please please do yourself a favor, go rent "Que La Lumiere Soit" (Let There Be Light), "Ne Quittez Pas" (Local Call) or "Alberto Express" to have the pleasure of viewing the work of one of France's true hidden treasures: the fantastic Arthur Joffé.
