The Sentinel (2006)

Not bad...not great...typical Hollywood thriller
19 April 2006
After seeing a commercial for "The Sentinel", my friend said it looked like "24: The Movie". Fortunately, it's not. It isn't, however, a super-amazing gripping the edge of your seat type thriller either. It moves along at a nice page, the acting is good (except for Eva Longoria...who seems to think acting equals pouting and frowning), it's nice to see Toronto up on the big screen (even with all those pesky Canadian protesters...finally someone captured how violent and disturbing we hosers really are).

Not a bad night out if you just want to eat popcorn and forget about life.

Stay away from this movie

This is the worst of the superhero movies yet. Ben Affleck, who has the personality of a wet blanket in his role, will appear on People magazine's next cover issue of World's Sexiest Worst Actor. I was wishing that I was blind from about five minutes in to the film. You know you're in trouble when there's an unneeded voiceover to explain the unneeded flashback at the start of the movie. You know you're in bigger trouble when there's the stupidest fight scene ever between Matt Murdoch and Electra in a kids playground...none of this movie makes sense, its dumb dumb dumb! Just stay at home and watch Spider-Man or X-Men again.

Someone gave this a 10?

Whoever thought that this movie was a ten out of ten does obviously not share my tastes. This is another in the long line of summer blockbusters that figures that eye-candy will make up for any lack of plot or intelligence (ie Star Wars II, Reign of Fire, etc.)

The story itself is uninspired, we care about nobody, the jokes seem to just be repeats of everything that worked in the first film. I guess that's what people want these days, fast food entertainment. And that's what you'll get with this movie.

I was surprised by the first one because I didn't think I would like it from the trailers but it turned out to be a fun (and funny) movie...Men In Black II is the disappointment I expected the first time around.

Still, if you don't want to think and like shiny objects, maybe this will be the ten out of ten experience you're after.
