Aliens vs. Predator 2 (2001)
the game of the Millennium
Wowweee! What the hell was that, nothing but a roller coaster... If, like me, you are that kind 'o guy that absolutely worships the alien saga and has always wanted to take to the field killing aliens or (humans or both), but are a little afraid of being caught by the police and sort of out of ammo, then this is THE game you've been looking for.
I have never seen such a brilliantly reproduced atmosphere in a film inspired game before. Lots of the mistakes that the first AVP had were corrected here, such as the one-off missions (that had hardly any connection with each other), and many others which aren't worth mentioning.
this is the only game I've ever played (and belive me I played many) that instilled fear in me. I mean pure, absolute fear! Fear of giving a single step forward, of looking back at what's lurking behind you or fear at the horrible noises coming from around the corner. It's everything the film saga is and a whole lot more.
about the species: either one you choose will be as challenging. the marine has the obvious limitations of humans; the predator has the most amazing weapons in the galaxy, and the alien is... well, just different. the game isn't all that hard to finish as the first AVP, because you can save your progress now. However, it does has a number of difficulty levels, that turn the game into a challenging experience.
the new abilities - such as pounce, or the wallwalk toggle - will add enormously to the gaming experience. The alien is a lot stealthier, although some abilities - like the predator vision modes - will circumvent this. but there's where your tactical genius will have to intervene. a good alien player will find a way around this, which will usually mean charging the enemy headlong, hitting fast and hard.
getting in the skin of the predator gives you a sense of invincibility - untill you start getting hacked left and right. believe me, there is a level that took me and my brother almost a month to complete (old debts). it's a cave full of aliens, that shows just how inefficient your high-tech weapons can be. but the real pleasure is when you hunt humans; it's always fun collecting the trophies and snipping at the sentry guns.
the marine as a good range of equipment, from the trusty old m41a, to the blowtorch, the smart gun and the hacking device. too bad that you can't get any of the really heavy stuff untill the end of the game (like the battle suit).

Ferris Bueller's Day Off (1986)
THE perfect film
The perfect film. Why? Because every thing that isn't supposed to happen, happens. His parents buying his story, the ferrari getting the chop, ferris getting away with it and still having time to go home and relax just before his parents check on him. What more can I say? Ferris is not a guy... he's a lifestile, a way of living the day to the fullest, without any regards for tomorrow. Without regrets.
Dark City (1998)
wake up to the nightmare of your life
What have we here? This film gives me the creeps. It's not a horror movie as such... it's more a police thriller, set up in a gothic, film-noir-very-moody-set-with-a-twist kind of flic. You know the genre. Alex Proyas is a great story teller because he doesn't tell you everything. It's like you're reading a book with a set of characters coming out of the darkest recesses of your imagination. You enter a nightmarish city where everybody is living a life that's not of their own.
A film that makes you wonder just how real is your "reality". A story about a place where there is no sun, no future, no hope and no escape... only ignorance keeps people alive. The kind of story you would get from The Matrix or They Live, only different. There's somebody out there, controlling your every waking (or sleeping) moment, telling you who you are and what's your life all about.
A group of whimful creatures known only as the Strangers are the "unknown gods" of mankind. But there's one man who will not play by their rules.
Pulp Fiction (1994)
the coolest film ever
Quentin Tarantino delivers THE masterpiece in gangster films. It's story is presented in a non-chronological way, which goes to show the brilliant editing it has. The dialogs are fast, funny, and flow like honey... absolutely delicious. To bad that the academy decided to punish Tarantino by only giving him one lousy award... it was really unfair, just because he's an "indy" director.
Aliens (1986)
wiping the floor with acid
If there's one thing we can say about this "monster of the senses", is that it's one rare case (and I don't recall any other) in which the sequel far surpasses the original. Period. Do I have to say more? wherever you are, go and watch it.
