Priscilla (2023)
4/10
"Elvis" it ain't
5 November 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I know Priscilla really wanted a movie about herself which is funny since a few years ago she was awarded something and she said she didn't know why as she didn't do anything.

I realize they were in a different era and Priscilla says her and Elvis didn't make love until after they married, but folks legacies have been destroyed for less. Kinda ironic that Elvis was trying to impress Priscilla with a jerry lee Lewis song when they first met. This movie is boring and depressing. Jacob Elordi mumbles and stutters too much and he seemed like an Elvis parody. Priscilla seemed way too calm when Elvis (according to her) was making her angry by his alleged cheating and throwing things at her. I wish this film would have added to the scene where Pris was obviously interested in her karate instructor.

I wouldn't pay money to see this film and I'm sure it will be on Tubi in a few months.

Going by the trailer, it seems like an interesting film but I can't find the full version anywhere..From what I get a woman's husband is unfaithful and she discovers this when he gives her an STD for for 50th birthday. And then there is something about someone making nude drawings??

Monsters: Rain Dance (1989)

Rain Dance

Warning: Spoilers
Tom Solo makes money by ripping off natives by offering them a low price for their artifacts and selling them for much more. His wife, Vanessa, is not at all thrilled with him taking them to the desert and offering her used jewelry. Tom meets the wrong woman who sells him an evil statue (only a greedy person would even want that ugly thing in their house) and the statue turns him and his wife into stone. Kent McCord looked very good in this episode. In 1989, his hair was still mostly dark and he looked to be in great physical shape, like in his Adam-12 days. This episode of Monsters also has a love scene with his character and the woman playing his wife.

But I give 4 stars because the episode was boring and predictable. Still good to see Mr McCord playing something other than a cop or someone in the military.

Dragnet 1967: D.H.Q.: Night School (1970)

Night School
7 June 2022
Warning: Spoilers
One of my favorite Dragnet episodes. Sgt Friday is taking night classes to earn his Masters in Criminology. He has to maintain a B average to pass and the class just sits around and talks every lessons. Joe arrests another student for possession of weed. The class doesn't know what each other does for a living and no one knows Joe is a cop. Really dumb to bring weed to class since it's illegal (back then) and you don't know who is who. Another non cop student could have turned that student in. Anyway, the professor and the other students votes Joe out of class saying he's a spy.

On another note, Joe looked adorable in his red sweater and it was nice to see him paying attention to the opposite sex for once. Jack Webb once said Joe Friday is a neutral character but "of course he likes girls" and this is one of the few episodes where we see that.

Anyway, being kicked out of class really bothered Joe but instead of going to school admin or seeing the captain (as Gannon suggested) he asks the professor for another vote but this time he tells his side of the story. Another classmate is a lawyer and said Sgt Friday has rights and not letting him learn would be job discrimination... Lawyer dude said he didn't say anything before because he wanted to see if Joe was gonna stand for that. I personally don't know if I'd even wanna stay in a class with such an unfair professor. Good thing for Joe they're only graded on class participation and not actual writing assignments.

Adam-12: The Princess and the Pig (1972)

Strange episode
3 June 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Was Adam 12 producers testing the waters for a spin off with this episode?

Reed and Malloy answer a call about an strung out female performer at a night club. The singer, Kathy, asks Reed to stay with her on the way to the hospital as they ride in the ambulance. Malloy stays behind. Reed goes undercover to try and bust the supplier who is also the nightclub manager who was there when Reed and Malloy took Kathy in. They justify letting Reed go undercover to talk to the club manager by saying he probably didn't see past Reed's uniform as it was mostly Malloy talking to him. You would think someone involved with drugs with notice a cops face.

Anyway, there was some weird sexual chemistry going on between Kathy and Jim. At her apartment as he tells her they won't be alone, he leans in as if he wants to kiss her, but of course he doesn't. This is after she asks him if he's married and she says they would make an odd couple, anyway.

Malloy saved the day which is great since he was so sad that his partner wasn't with him while uncover and Malloy was told by Mac that he couldn't get involved.

Good to see Friday out of character
29 May 2022
Warning: Spoilers
One of my favorite Dragnet episodes. Jack Webb breaks out of character a few times to laugh at Harry Morgan. It's so fun to see an otherwise stern character laughing. Of course this wouldn't be Dragnet without an arrest so that happens as well. Gannon is always criticizing Friday for being a bachelor and the one of men they initially play cards with says married men live longer than single men, but their wives kept calling and they had to go home. I always found it funny that Jack Webb puts stuff like that in Dragnet when he himself was 3x divorced by then.

Pete got on my nerves
18 May 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Ivy, girl, I don't know why you're wasting your time with Pete. He kicked you, a beautiful and eager woman out of his bed and even before that you fell into a fountain and he didn't even help you get out. He would rather play in a smokey club while avenging his buddy's death than marry you. And I'm not buying that his character can lick Lee Marvin (twice). And all those Dragnet style one liners he was talking, he was too scared to hit dude with that bottle when he had the chance.

I was reading some old magazine from back then from before the film was released and many articles seemed excited that Jack had a love interest in this film. Well, what's the point because he wasn't even interested.

One of the few episodes where you see Joe with any love interest even if in this episode it was just so he could find info on an illegal poker game. And Bill as a philandering husband.. they didn't know who the lady would like so they had to cover all their bases.

Leave It to Beaver: Box Office Attraction (1963)

Warning: Spoilers
One of the best LitB episodes. Wally falls for an older woman who works at the movie theater. Beaver and Gilbert spot her in a bar "smoking and drinking beer!" and call her a "woman of the world". June is all fretting that Wally is gonna elope after she reads the paper about some teens eloping.. didn't people usually marry their high school sweethearts right after high school back then, anyway? Anyway, the woman comes over for dinner and she later smokes in the car with Wally and tells him she wants him to like her and she tries to kiss him but he pushes her away. Gee, Wally, don't you want some of that?

Reed got on my nerves telling a grown man what to do with his money. I think Reed was a little jealous. And that Mexican food he ate looked good.

This was a good episode. Very humorous.

One of the best episodes!

Warning: Spoilers
This is my favorite episode of the series. That smirk Malloy gave Reed after he said she wouldn't be bothering him anymore made me think he gave her what she was after.

This episode didn't take a woman stalking a man seriously, but this episode had a male writer and director so blame them. They could have really spread awareness on that topic which would have been something in that era.

Warning: Spoilers
This movie is about nothing... a DJ gets dumped by his gf while he's on the air. Before that a woman called in asking should she leave an abusive relationship. He basically said "yes". (What else would he say?) and the woman ends up finding him and repeatedly thanking him for "saving her life". This is all the writers of this film could come up with?? Turns out her ex bf was a dangerous dope dealer and is angry at the DJ for telling his girl to leave him, even though the DJ didn't know any of this at the time. The protagonist of the film, Tony, was a good character but everyone else seemed like a parody.
