The Rainbow Warrior (1993 TV Movie)
A good recount.
1 August 2004
A very good adaptation of the real events that surrounded the Rainbow Warrior bombing with very good performances all round. Sam Neil proves again what a great actor he is as he plays real life Alan Galbraith. Jon Voight does a particularly good turn as skipper Peter Wilcox.

The French are quite rightly portrayed as the enemy in this film because they are and notably showed how stupid they were leaving trails for the New Zealand police to follow. They after all in particular Galbraith almost toppled the French government with their discoveries a giant killing act indeed.

There are some good scenes in this film some quite surprising. The scene in which the Rongelap man describes his people succumbing to the effects of radiation poisoning following the 1954 15 megaton thermonuclear 'Bravo' shot on Bikini is one of the most disturbing descriptions that I have ever heard. All in all a good film and a good purchase on DVD.

Best film of the year so far! Best of the three!
2 June 2004
I saw the film last night with great anticipation, and boy did it deliver! The whole look of the film looks so much better, the uniforms, the style, Hogwarts itself, Cuaron has done a great job too in creating a darker film. The film is rushed and yes there are bits from the book missing but I think Steve Kloves has done a great job in creating a screenplay perfect for the big screen. Remember this is a film and not a book! The problem with the first two was that they were too long especially Chamber of Secrets which, with the deleted scenes felt like they were trying to film the entire book! This film though is perfect for timing, the Quidditch match is long enough as are the rest of the scenes. Everything rolled out quite nicely. I will see it again most notably for the scene where Ian Brown (ex Stone Roses singer) makes a cameo appearance! He is the first wizard you see in the Leaky Cauldron. Overall I give the film 9/10

Ivor the Engine (1976–1977)
Wonderful cherished childhood memories! An asset to my generation. Ivor the Engine.
16 April 2004
I loved Ivor the Engine when I was young and yes I'll admit it I still do more than ever. I have purchased the whole series on VHS as a reminder of my childhood and actually watch it a lot. Nothing can compare, yes there is Thomas the Tank Engine but Ivor the Engine is pure magic! The music, the people and even the dragons. The episodes are very good too especialy my all time fave 'Snowdrifts' and there are many others! Thank you Oliver Postgate and Peter Firmin for making my childhood great and memorable!

Wonderful film
4 February 2004
I love this film! I bought it on DVD recently but when I saw it on TV I was somehow captivated by it. The film captivated me for a number of reasons. Firstly the film in my opinion is based on the exploits of an actual British botanist Major Tom Harrison who did exactly what Nigel Haver's character did in 1945 helping the tribes. He never met a king but from what I read there were striking similarities. Also I like Nigel Havers I think he is a great actor and here he proves that he is just that. He gives the film emotion and has a wonderful presence with his voice especially his last line of the film, wonderful!

I also like the fact that film shows the British and Aussies did a lot of work fighting the Japanese and it wasn't just the Americans. Nick Nolte's character is just about what I'd expect from him gritty, and King like, although it is hard not see the similarities between him and Rambo. James Fox is good too and I'm glad he was in it. The film does have its flaws and the story seems to make it incoherent at times which is its major weakness. Having said that I still think it is one of my favorite World War Two movies.

Scared me ****less!!!!
23 November 2002
I first watched this film when I was a kid and is the only time in my life that I can remember putting my hands over my face and eyes in utter horror at one particular scene. I remembered it again with a disscusion with my uni friends and promptly bought it on video with plenty of hesitation I might add (to my surprise I only found it on the web in the States when it was made in England!) When I watched it again my reaction and to my surprise was almost the same, of sheer horror and fear and never has my heart been beating so much too. This is in my opinon the SCARIEST film ever made, Hollywood films seem tame in comparison and a bit Pony and Trap (crap), pardon the pun. What is amazing though is the power of this film and at uni when watching this with about twenty of my associates I have never heard so many screams, blokes as well! Even the sight of the video brings the fear of God into me of that one particular scene, and left me feeling that I will never walk alone again in the dark!!!!

My favorite film of all time!
23 November 2002
I love this film even when I saw it when I was a kid. What makes it so good is the spectacular finale, the train crash sequence is just awesome and is worth the purchase alone, which brings me to the point. WHY OH WHY HASN'T THIS FILM BEEN RELEASED ON DVD!!!!???? This is an utter disgrace there must be a reason why this film hasn't been released on that format yet!!! It was a huge box office hit in the seventies so there is no excuse !!! A great film!!

Great, one of the best Children's Film Foundation programmes ever made!
19 July 2002
I had to get this video from Nebraska in the the US after desperatly trying to find for at least 15 years since I first saw it in 1984 on BBC1 on a Friday. It has been worth the wait; great visuals (for the time, the sets are even better than Land of the Giants, just see the desk and also the spider scene scared me!!), it's funny too; Charlie Drake fits in the role with ease and is hysterical as Professor Popper! The plot is basically trying to get the Professor and his kid assistants back to their normal size. However it is not easy as there are some strangers who want what the Professor has made 'the reducing tablets' (basically green sugar lumps which the Porfessor and Simon accidently put in their tea!!). So what happens is a great adventure on top of a giant desk, trying to get out of a giant drain, the back of a bike and then a ride on some kids rollerskates. It is fantastic and I still enjoy watching it to this day!!! It has quite a few famous faces apart from Charlie Drake of course there is a young Todd Carty from Eastenders, Milo O'Shea and a few others you may recognise from British tv. I could go on all day!

It seems strange that I had to get it from the US of all places!!
