Fernandel is very good here
21 April 2008
A very good classic french comedy with famous french actors, I mean, Fernandel and Louis de Funes. Fernandel is a star here, he plays 6 different people in this film, and different people of different age! It's easy to understand what a great comedy actor he is! Funes is also play great part here... (and here he still has his hair:). This film contain many very well-filmed moments and it is,of course,a good family movie( it contains a little nudity, but it's very gentle). And in conclusion I must say that it isn't funny from A to Z, it's just a clever film that is very good for old cinema lovers...So, have a good time. And also watch Public enemy n.1 (1953) with Fernandel. It's worth a look!!! P.S (Later Mister Pitkin uses jokes and tricks that Fernandel do in this one...)

Good old days
15 April 2008
Oh, I'm not completely agree with the previous review of that film, because author says that it's not funny at all. Yes, it's not a hilarious french comedy like Oscar, Gendarmes or something like that. That film goes in the way of Sabrina (I mean early films with Audrey Hepburn), because I think it more American feel there than french. The cast is good. Women plays good parts. The father of the family is outstanding, especially in the very beginning of the film. And there is a little gem. A wonderful part by Louis de Funes. He is at his best there, but this episode is so short. (Approx. 3 min.). So i give 76 out of 100

Great drama acting by de Funes
14 April 2008
I saw it and can say that this is very good old-fashioned comedy. (in the way Charlie Chaplin made). Louis de Funes - one of his last roles - is outstanding as always. Other cast is great too. Maybe the choice of Funes' wife is not good- I don't like her acting. SO, we have a very funny and sometimes sad movie with great language jokes and with couple of "words of wisdom":). See it if you like classic comedies, Louis, or just want not a stupid comedy for an evening at home. And of course this is much better than last de Funes movie - Gendarme and Gendarmettes - it's not show the level of de Funes talent and contains some really stupid jokes. So, if you want to watch some of the late Funes films see this one or The Miser (1979) which is so great!!!

Louis and Gendarmes...nothing else to say
13 December 2007
Louis De Funes, of course, is a wonderful actor. Especially for those who like classic comedies. I do, so I collecting his movies for a couple of years. Many can say that Gendarmes is commercial series, and it's not showing the true talent of Louis de Funes, I will not agree with it. Maybe Gendarmes in New York and Gendarmes and Gendarmettes is not a great movies, but they have their good parts too. Of course, it's not the same to the Funes's greatest hit Oscar, but it costs it's price! It's truly the best part of the Gendarmes Series! De Funes and others doing their best there. Many can say that Gendarmes from Sent-Tropes is much better, but it's not. Because there is many great jokes but not much of an action. So, I think that's it's the golden middle of the series. This movie is a wonderful piece of constant action and great jokes. Jokes there aren't the same as in modern pictures, maybe sometimes they aren't funny at all, but if you look at the people who jokes(gendarmes) - you'll see what I mean. So, for me it was a good movie in my childhood and now...it became classic!
