The Acolyte: Day (2024)
Great ending, poor everything else
Starting out with the good, the last 3 minutes were very good. The tone shift as The Master enters was nice. The lighting was intersting and I liked how he just floated into the scene like a ghost. It was very eerie and is the one time in the show I felt something other than resentment.
But. The rest was awful. Mai has a 1 minute redemption arc where she says her sister is jedi scum and then says oh, I want to turn myself in. No tension, no confliction, just gave up. It is also very predictable, I knew pretty much everything that was going to happen before it happened, which is a common theme for this series. It's all just exposition and filler and just not engaging. They add a lot of plot holes and its just not good. I don't understand how a board of writers got away with this and then got approved by production. It's so predictable and boring.
The Acolyte: Destiny (2024)
Nothing happens in this show
Nothing happens in this episode that we don't know already. The costume design isn't bad and the aliens look good but that's about it. I don't really know what to write about because you don't gain anything from this episode. They copy the chosen one philosophy with children being conceived with no father which doesn't make any sense, I don't know why they even bothered with that. It's actually impressive how they got 38 minutes of run time from this, we all knew that Mae started the fire and that Osha wanted to be a Jedi. They just didn't do anything in this episode. Nothing cool or exciting, no lore building, absolutely nothing of note happened. Very boring.
The Acolyte: Revenge/Justice (2024)
Whats the point?
I'm not sure what the point of this show is. Nothing of note happens. This episode was 30 minutes long and next to nothing changed from the end of the first episode. It's just all over the place and its so predictable at time. Everytime someone is under arrest, you just know that there are going to escape.
The hand to hand combat scenes and the set design are done pretty well I will admit, but other than that there's really nothing that shocks you here. The characters are also not too intriguing, the alien padawan is really obnoxious and annoying, Yord doesn't seem to be that intelligent, Sol is okay but he makes bad decisions a lot and just isn't too likeable in my opinion. Overall, just really boring.
Fallout (2024)
Great show, just a little too much going on
This show does an absolutely great job respecting the lore and giving the show the care it deserves. The writers were obviously educated on the franchise and did a lot of things right.
Characters were all around great. When I saw the trailers and saw Lucy trying to deliberate with the ghoul I was thinking it would be really childish and lacking of any tension but it shows her naivety and innocence in the show and shows how she's so out of her element, it's great.
The only hiccup is there's a little too much going on, there's like 4 different stories that actually do converge quite nicely at the end but it's a little disorienting throughout the entirety of the show. It's definitely better to have too much than too little but I could've done with just a little less in my opinion.
Regardless, characters were great, knowledge of the lore was great, great plot, great set up for season 2, funny references to the games throughout the show, just a really good job all around. Even if you're not aware of the games or their story, this works as a stand alone show just fine. This is everything that shows should use as a template when making content that is from existing media. Very well done.
Ahsoka (2023)
Meh
The good:
Lightsaber fights have good choreography, great fan service with Anakin, Baylan and Shin start out really good and interesting, live action thrawn was good-ish.
The bad:
Sabine was insufferable. She was so annoying and pretentious and I couldn't stand her character and "character arc". Thrawn is the main villain and doesn't show up until the end of the episode, Baylan just wonders off for some reason, the end of the show essentially trades Ezra and thrawn for Ahsoka and Sabine. Zombie storm troopers? I guess, why not. Thrawn making some questionable decisions that don't make any sense. Just really frustrating at times.
For surface level media, it's not bad. There's somewhat of a story there, but once you dig below that it's just a mess and could've been handled much much better. Not great, no horrible, just another bunt that could've been a home run.
Star Wars: Tales of the Jedi (2022)
This is Star Wars
This is everything Star Wars media should be. Fun and exciting stories that have some dark undertones that ground the plot and give it tension. The first episode of Ahsoka wasn't great which is why this isn't a 10/10 but everything else was stellar. We learn how and why Dooku turned, we learned a lot about the forging of the clone wars, we get interesting dialogue banter between Dooku and mace windu. A lightsaber fight with superb meaning to it, great representation and awareness of the canon, learning how ahsoka was able to survive order 66, and why she joined the rebel alliance. Very rewatchable, very entertaining, very interesting, just a great show. This is the template.
Star Wars: Tales of the Empire (2024)
Tales of the empire minus the empire
There's one episode that somewhat resembles the empire. The first 3 episodes don't have anyone relating to the empire besides a couple scenes with thrawn, the 4th episode is decent, but then the last 2 aren't about the empire either.
This could've been a fun mini series like tales of the jedi but it was a huge disappointment. 3 episodes about someone that barely shows up in canon and a super lazy redemption arc for a character need one.
We could've had multiple episodes about the training of the inquisitors. More scenes with Vader, seeing how the grand inquisitor came to power, thrawns path to power, training of the royal guards, something that actually pertains to the freaking empire. Very lazy and forgettable show that no one will talk about in 3 weeks.
