HALF A STORY - In commenting on the film Benedict Cumberbatch has said.....
9 October 2014
In commenting on the film Benedict Cumberbatch has said there was no need to depict Turing's homosexuality as it was "so obvious." I couldn't disagree more. It is one of the fundamental reasons why this man died before he was able to give so much more to society and find happiness for himself (perhaps in reverse order.) He helped end the war and the state, in return, chemically castrated him and cast him in to a pit. The film does NOT depict this on any acceptable level and I cannot be the only person to take this view, surely? It gets 4/10 for less than half a story. What is there is well acted. What isn't is a wholly different and more compelling film. Please somebody (not Hollywood) make it......

Homophobic, xenophobic trash that fails to even amuse
21 September 2011
I have just had the unpleasant experience of watching this which should bring an end to the career of every single person on it. The mere fact that those acting in it read the script before appearing in it should exemplify how greedy they were to be paid....... On a lighter note it seemed to make Police Academy 6 through 13 really funny by comparison. Everyone in it should be made to disappear - they should be banned from entering New York/Brooklyn until they have had their IQ tested and they have apologised to every type of person they offended in this deeply unfunny pile of trash. Its not that every Sandler film is bad but any likening to the work of Jerry Lewis (in terms of low budget slapstick reputation for churning out offal) would be offensive to Lewis, who is an icon by comparison.

Brilliant
4 July 2011
Reminds me of my own youth in similar circumstances and reminds me of the scrapes I got in to with my late best friend, in the late 80s in the North of England. Ignore the stereotypes...sometimes the stereotypes actually exist, you know. Brilliant.

The characters are well drawn and the dream sequences add some mysticism. Whilst the plot is a little crazy its a genuine, sad and heartwarming tragedy, which in view of the lack of a big Hollywood style budget, for me at least, is something that cheap British films excel at. Well done. Its s ashame most of the young actors did not develop their careers, but looking back on such films it only adds to the importance of it for me.
