The Family Man (2019)
Best season 2 for an Indian series but...
I enjoyed the first season for it's authenticity and comedic timing along with the way the entire series was knitted together. Combined with awesome characterization and great acting, I think Family Man series 1 is superlative. With high hopes for the second season, I have to say I am not very happy but comparing with other Indian OTT series and their second season (Sacred Games and Mirzapur come to mind), I am happy with season 2 of Family Man.
Characterization/Acting:-
In my opinion, the best character and actor who own this second season is Raji (Samantha Akkineni), without a doubt she is the star of this season. I wanted someone to murder her (the character obviously) brutally by the 7th or 8th episode, this shows what impact she had as an actor and the portrayal of Raji. Amazing! What this series for her.
The worst character (not actor) for me was Suchi (Priyamani). She comes across as a bad wife, pathetic mom and and very shallow and selfish human being. Not sure Raj and DK along with the writers were going for this kind of a portrayal but I do not wish my enemy a wife like Suchi. In episode 6, she snaps at Arvind (Sharad Kelkar) and promptly apologizes but from the beginning of the 2nd season, she is so distant and disconnected from her husband and kids. Pathetic characterization in her case. The writers/directors could have gone a bit subtle with her mental state of mind and how she ignores and doesn't even care for her kids. Massive fail!
Manoj Bajpayee is what you expect and he is fantastic!
Other actors and characters fit well.
Story:- Some spoilers below:-
Storyline is good, all is well but man so many loopholes and dumb situations, in this day and age and from a show this popular and made by people with high technical prowess. One example comes to mind, in the 6th episode, there are multiple opportunities to hold on to or stop the main culprit but officers of TASC and local police cannot even think about shooting a dangerous terrorist in the leg or something. Also when this culprit escapes after police station, no agency is seen to be following this dangerous terrorist. Mind boggling!! Yes I know they want to extend the storyline, I have no issues but show situations that are believable.
All in all a good season despite the few issues that I have pointed out.
Waiting for season 3, if anyone associated with the show reads this, please guys watch the show from a fan's perspective and remove any pathetic and childish situations/loopholes and apply some extra brain power to make a slicker season 3!
Lahore (2010)
A beautiful movie with a great message
I watched this movie after hearing a lot about all the international awards that were bagged by the film-makers. But after watching Lahore, I realize how much potential Indian film makers have and Indian movies are not all about singing & dancing around trees. About the movie, I would say, watch it for story line which stay on track, the brilliant performance of Aanaahad and Farooq Shaikh, for the brilliantly shot fight sequences (rarely seen in an Indian movie, mostly they are over the top), good background score and lastly, but not the least, the direction and editing. Sanjay Chauhan has done an awesome job, the movie does not loose pace, the script is tight and the viewer gets engrossed very easily into the lives of the characters. I felt the start was a bit confusing (first 5 min) but once the movie unfolds one finds out what is actually going on. I would recommend this to one and all. If movies like this one keep on being made in India, we can actually hope that we can remove the monopoly of the Yash Raj type director/producers from India who think that an Indian viewer has no sense and will watch anything.
