Frankie Boyle: Live (2008 Video)
2/10
Recycled one-liners from 'Mock the week'
2 December 2009
I'm guessing anybody that would buy this DVD grew to like Frankie Boyle through 'Mock the week', I know I did. His brutal and quick wit made him the high point of what was already a great show, so when I saw his first live stand up DVD was being realised, I excitedly went out and bought it, expecting the hilarity of the panel show but possibly even funnier. I was wrong.

Instead of a flowing reel of funny banter what you get is a serious of unconnected one-liners that had already been used (much to the amusement of everyone watching the show) on 'Mock the week'. He picked out members of the audience to insult (I later saw him do the same on the live at the Apollo show, even using the exact same phrases), unfunnily.

I think I genuinely laughed twice. Very disappointing.

Save your money and go for Michael Mcintyre or Lee Evans.

Tacky TV at its best
22 March 2009
It didn't surprise me to see the average user vote for this show on IMDb to be 2.1 because, let's be honest, it's not great.

For one thing, it's reality TV; a genre that is always easy to scrutinise, especially when not done extremely well. It's 12 very British 20-somethings, all younger than Paris, competing to be Paris's 'British best friend' or 'BBF'. They all fight and bitch like there's no tomorrow, then suck up and act like the sweetest, most innocent person to walk this earth during their meeting with the big P. One contestant, or sometimes in a shock twist TWO, are booted out each week until we are left with one winner. Hooray! So yeah, not the most original set up, but what did you really expect? Honestly, this is a load of rubbish. But in a good way! It's target audience is not adults, more so late teens and twenties. And for that audience, it worked! I'm not the most girly girl in the world, nor am I even much of a PH fan, but I liked this show. No doubt, like what happened with the original U.S version of the show, Paris'll feel the need to get another BBF and we'll see series 2 sometime next year :) 7/10.

1408 (2007)

Very spooky
24 March 2008
This film really surprised me as the only reason I went to see it was because I'd missed the film I had intended to see in the first place.

Stephen King is renowned for some great films such as the Green Mile. However, some of his films have been very disappointing such as The Secret Window and Dreamcatcher. So when I bought my tickets to go see 1408, I didn't really know what to expect, especially since no-one I knew had been to see it and I had no reviews.

The basic plot is the story of an ageing paranormal investigator turned Author who is famed for writing books about ghost finding hotels and spots in the US. After receiving an anonymous postcard from the Dolphin Hotel, he decides to spend a night in room 1408 with terrifying results.

This film really scared me! It has a good blend of pscycological and physical scares which is quite hard to achieve.

John Cusack plays the role of a strong and narrow-minded fighter losing a battle of sanity with great integrity.

John Cusack at his best.

A good horror film. Recommended for those who plan a night in with a good horror.

Scrubs (2001–2010)

Never fails to make me laugh
23 March 2008
Scrubs has got to be one of the best things on telly at the minute. I accidentally stumbled upon it a few years ago and have watched it regularly ever since! It really is a good TV show which is rare nowadays.

Zach Braff plays the nerdy, over-emotional yet 100% lovable character John Dorian or 'J.D', and if I may add, he plays him damn well! With other central characters including J.D's best friend and 'super chocolate bear' surgeon Christoper Turk and his caring latino wife Carla, J.D's on-off love interest and longtime friend Elliot, J.D's resident doctor Dr. Cox and J.D's enemy The Janitor, this t.v show is nothing but laughs.

I've never seen an episode I haven't laughed at and on occasions, I have cried.

10/10.

Airplane! (1980)

Timeless comedy. Impossible to dislike.
17 February 2008
When Ted discovers his girlfriend is leaving him to start a new life, he overcomes his war-induced fears of flying to win her back. While on the flight and after many mishaps, he finds himself coming face to face with his biggest nightmares including an ex-work colleague and his 'drink problem', to name a few.

A lovesick war hero, beautiful air-stewardess, eccentric doctor, under-the-influence aeroplane instructor and shameless member of the air-traffic control staff are some of the perfectly written characters that make this movie special.

What can I say? This film is without a doubt, one of the funniest that's ever been made. With endless classic moments that at the time were inevitably going to become world-famous catchphrases and jokes, this movie is impossible to dislike.

Great acting. Great gags. Great storyline. Hilarious. 10/10

A terrible and pointless film
27 January 2008
Warning: Spoilers
I'm reading the previous comments by the other users and am sincerely in shock about the praise this film is getting! I am quite a fan of Kirsten Dunst so bought this DVD (for a fair bit of many aswel!) with high expectations and to be honest, I don't think I've ever been so letdown by one film before! There was a lot of vital information missing. Yes, we learn that the shoe Orlando Bloom's character, Drew, invents turns out to be a 'fiasco' but there is no information explaining why.

I also find Orlando Bloom's character pretty annoying. I don't understand why the character keeps smiling before he goes to kill himself. It's not even in an 'This world is a joke, i'm smiling to stop myself from crying' manor, it's just a weird and totally unnecessary smirk. I think this is Orlando Bloom's weakest performance although he isn't actually much of an actor anyway.

And one of the most ANNOYING things about the film is the Mother. She tells a joke about the neighbours erection at her husbands wake. Then does a tap dance. And everybody cheers and laughs like it's really something great. How ridiculous?! It's a poor film and I found myself getting bored and actually quite embarrassed in front of the friend I was watching it with.

Save your money and DON'T be lured by Orlando Bloom.
