Le tueur du lac (2017)
Twist The Cube
Harmless serendipity for the sofa-set... who enjoy solving multidimensional murder-mysteries after a full day and a warm meal. The only pillow-bump here, is the motive.
Either have all the 'face-coverings' be identical, or don't bother having 'face-coverings' at all. None of the suspects' personalities matched-up to the death-masque gimmick and the fetish meant less and less as the plot 4-wheeled on.
I had a minor problem about the obsession with hacking and the impression that everybody knew everyone's password. Other than that, the close-knit village-setting avoided being claustrophobic and the acting was spectacular.
Brightwood (2022)
Saucer's Security-System Is Glitching.
That's my assessment of what's going-on as Jen climbs out of the lake and we see overhead shots of the water... 'with something down there'. Having previously spotted 'something glinting' in the reeds, the camera presents a shot of a 'device' creating machine-made ripples and a thin blue beam, which she's reaching-for.
I could only conclude that the woods are a landing-site of some sort and the time-loop is a security-shield that stopped functioning correctly. Jen and Dan just happened to be on-hand, dealing with a relationship that isn't functioning correctly.
It's a subliminally-beautiful film. Dynamic. Mysterious. Well-written. Well-casted.
