Heartbeat: A Fresh Start (2005)
New sergeant and Peggy put me off
I've been watching Heartbeat since Ep1 and enjoying the differing characters. But this series with this buffoon Sergt Miller and the nasty Peggy have totally put me off. This episode was typical of the latest producers and is poor in script and direction. Peggy has a scheme that is poisoning the population what a horrible person she is. She involves poor David in her criminality. There's a gang stealing cars and driving dangerously and assaulting coppers and they are terrorizing the community but although they punch the constable and get run off by a new resident who turns out to be a reformed safe breaker. Sergt know it all Miller wants to arrest the guy who saves the copper. I've too much hate for him and will now stop watching it.
Dark: Das Paradies (2020)
TV perfection
An absolute perfect series. A thrilling and thought provoking ending that fitted the ethos of the show. Dark is a one of a kind experience. I'm not sure I understood everything that occured but that really doesn't matter. As it is the experience that counts. It thrilled, scared, exasperated, confused and entertained me. That's what great TV should do. I hope USA dont try to remake it in English.
The Lady Vanishes (1938)
Hitchcock announces his genius
1938 this movie to a greater extent stands the test of time. My goodness it's over 80 years old and the suspense intrigue and script still sound relevant generally.
Michael Redgrave does a great tour de force as a flippant musicologist who joins with Margaret Lockwood in her search for a vanished lady who had helped her.
The characters in the movie resonate with modern characters. I was so impressed with Hitchcock's talent to build tension and introduce mystery and drama at just the right places in the film. He shows s wonderful ability to show comedy also. I really enjoyed watching this film.
If you get a chance watch it too.
Fleabag: Episode #2.1 (2019)
So absolutely amazing
What a beginning to a wonderful series. Phoebe shows what an incredibly talented writer and actor she is. This episode will take you from plain laughter through astonishment to jaw dropping uncomfortableness. This was one of the best 25mins of tv seen in decades. The scale of emotions is tangible for such a short period. The characters involved are all on their A game particularly Phoebe and Andrew who both show why some actors light up your screen and others dont. As an ex actor I really enjoyed the beefy waitresses scenes she was very good.
Watch this series for your TV enjoyment.
Star Trek: Discovery: Project Daedalus (2019)
Frakes is a genius
Just finished watching this episode Project Daedalus. What an hour of gripping TV. From start to finish this experience was suspenseful and balanced. The interplay among the actors and the fine editing decisions by Director Frakes who of course is a ST legend and can without doubt show an audience his vision of ST.
Watch this episode for the empathy for unfeeling characters and weep at the end like me. Wonderful entertaining TV.
Billy Two Hats (1974)
Underrated Western
I am a fan of the Cowboy/Western genre. I've watched a lot of Western movies, from the 50's B movies to the John Ford masterpieces and Clint Eastwood's honest portrayal. This is a very good Western, it has some great powerful performances from Peck and Arnaz Jr who was truly very watchable and conveyed a lot of underlying emotions. The movie concerns the relationship between diverse characters, Peck's humorous kind portrayal of a man who has turned to crime to ensure a living, to Arnaz's contained portrayal of a man caught between two worlds, perhaps his two hats nomenclature is a euphemism for the two worlds he straddles. The supporting characters are no less interesting with Jack Warden as the relentless sheriff who doesn't understand the relationship between the two and David Huddlestones Store owner who was a buffalo hunter sharpshooter in the recent past and who can see the new future promised by the railroad and the advent of civilization to come. The move itself is quite metaphorical and symbolic but doesn't lose sight of the main thread, that of the growth of Billy Two Hats in the company of his wise mentor. I really enjoyed it, and I hope you will too. The only downside was Gregory Peck's dreadful Scottish accent which appears and disappears randomly throughout.
