The Loner: The Lonely Calico Queen (1965)
Season 1, Episode 3
8/10
First Rate episode. Introduces Kritina Holland (credited on screen as Tina Hermensen)
18 October 2016
Warning: Spoilers
Whilst watching this episode I was amazed at the performance of the actress playing Angie Wheeler. My mind was trying to place her. When the end credits rolled it said 'Introducing Tina Hermensen' I checked the name on the IMDb and found this to be her only credit. Having recently watched every episode of The Courtship Of Eddie's Father, it dawned on me that this was actually Kristina Holland! I tried to correct this on IMDb but to no avail. So if anyone happens to watch this episode they will now know who she is. I won't reveal any spoilers, suffice to say, it was a terrific half hour. The Jerry Goldsmith theme will stick in your mind.

Not Bad
19 January 2016
Warning: Spoilers
Released here in Australia as Point Blank, my NTSC VHS studio tape is called Deadly Conspiracy. The end credits clearly say the year of production is 1991 and the prequel Frame- Up in 1990. The music by Bob Summers is quite upbeat, especially the end credit sequence. All the performers do a decent job and there is a lot of plot going on. From the moment we see John Saxon outside talking to his Henchmen Robert Dryer and Lee Arenberg, we know he is up to no good. Poor Margeaux Hemingway is wasted here and Morgan Jones who was in several episodes of the first season of Mannix as well as many other shows, has a few good scenes as Dr. Cantwell. Hard to believe it has been twenty five years since this film as made. Like most of Wings Hauser's films, it has never been released on DVD. Perhaps we should have Wings Hauser retrospective and bring some of his 80s and 90s films to today's audience. I remember in the Video store days always checking the new releases for these type of films. Apart from the obvious 'Top Title' tapes of the day, we always enjoyed these types of films for something different. Try finding Rutger Hauer's A Breed Apart (1983)on DVD. Anyway if you have an hour and a half to kill and want a trip down memory lane, try and seek this one out.

Harry O: Guardian at the Gates (1974)
Season 1, Episode 3
10/10
Memorable Episode.
17 July 2015
Warning: Spoilers
Only three episodes into the series following the two PILOTS and this one is a winner all round. The music is perfect, the episodes on the WB Archive collection are sharp and clear, the best I have ever seen the series look. Barry Sullivan is exceptional as the cantankerous architectural genius who doesn't have time for the things he considers trivial in life , including his daughter! Watch for a humorous scene where he asks Harry to make him lunch. Linda Evans is gorgeous and displays a wide range of emotions, ditto for Anne Archer whose talent shines through. A nice turn by Richard Kelton and the location work is pleasing to the eye, especially Sullivan's beach house. Linda Dangcil appears uncredited as a tough-as-nails bar worker from whom Harry seeks information. In all a fine entry so early in the run of a truly entertaining series.

Powerful.
25 January 2015
Warning: Spoilers
I watched an excellent print on the weekend with a fellow Rod Taylor fan. It was a good choice as a tribute to Rod, reunited here with Time Machine co-star Yvette Mimieux. Jim Brown was excellent and Peter Carsten makes an imposing villain. Listen closely and I'm certain some of Peter's scenes are dubbed by Paul Frees (I'd know his voice anywhere). The film makes you think and there are some emotional scenes throughout. Kenneth More has a nice supporting role. The action scenes are well choreographed and some of the violent scenes leave more to the imagination than in your face blood shed. Certain scenes are cringe-worthy and leave an impact. There are nice touches of irony throughout.

Maybe not the funniest, but certainly interesting
1 October 2014
Warning: Spoilers
OK I must agree with the previous reviewer about most aspects of this episode. I sometimes just like to be transported back to that era and escape for twenty five minutes. I have been a fan of this show for many years and of course there are some episodes I can't stand. You can't please all of the people.... I do like Milton Selzer's character and the funny bit at the beginning when an uncredited Lennie (Leonard) Bremen as the New York baseball fan, who, when asked who got hit, gets to say 'Who was it, it was That Goil!'. I've always liked Ted Bessell and thought he should have went on to bigger things. Check out his dramatic turns in Breaking Up Is Hard To Do (1979)(Oh how I would love to have the complete three hour version, which I did years ago, but the tape has since given up the ghost)and The Acorn People (1981). Lew Parker was always a treat and my mother and I always compared him to her father. Even my wife thinks he was funny. But I digress. The split screen effect is deftly handled and yes, I suppose Ted could have played it differently, but that was point of the story wasn't it? That Rex and Don were almost exactly alike...

Haunting music, Great location work
19 January 2014
Warning: Spoilers
A favorite for many years it was actually filmed in 1964 (read the copyright at the beginning of the film just under the title sequence and also on the back of the VHS tape box. I am always amazed that Sean McClory was not billed as he had a substantial part at the beginning. Adam West and Linda (Lori) Saunders do well in the lead roles. A nice turn by Denver Pyle and a scenery-chewing role for Theodore Marcuse as the resident bad guy. It would be nice to see a remastered release in HD. Adam West was certainly busy in 1964 This, Robinson Crusoe On Mars, The Outlaws is Coming (another 1964 production, released in 1965) as well as Bewitched, The Outer Limits, I could go on... Anyway if you get a chance to see it, you will not be disappointed.

Great Film, Worth Watching again.
27 June 2013
Warning: Spoilers
I have always enjoyed this film. Perfect cast, likable leads and great sound track. Ah the 1970s, what an era of memorable films. John Denver is superb as always and who else but George Burns could play God so convincingly! Teri Garr is gorgeous as John's wife and what a supporting cast! Paul Sorvino is a standout! I am amazed that the IMDb has not included Stuart Nisbet as the doorman with whom John Denver speaks. Stuart has two scenes near the elevator. Clyde Kusatsu is also there in the grocery store when John is talking to God in the security mirror. I realize both are uncredited, so perhaps they can now be included in the film's cast. Go ahead and enjoy yourself in this timeless classic from a bygone era.

Another Excellent Steve Canyon episode
29 May 2013
Warning: Spoilers
Another first class episode of this classic series. An uncredited William Mims appears at the beginning of the episode as the waiter. He has a few lines of dialog and one wonders why he was not credited. Tom Gilson's character has a first name - 'Charlie' as spoken by a very young Leslie Parrish, here billed as Marjorie Hellen. This episode is the first to introduce semi regulars Jerry Paris, Abel Fernandez and Robert Hoy. Abel and Robert contribute very entertaining and informative commentaries on THE COMPLETE STEVE CANYON ON TV VOLUME 2, produced by John Ellis. I highly recommend purchasing these outstanding volumes, they are packed with amazing extras and each episode has been meticulously remastered so as to be pristine prints.

Unaired PILOT
20 May 2013
Warning: Spoilers
I recently viewed the Unaired pilot from 1966 which starred Alan Young as Stanley H. Beamish. Of interest - it had four writers - George Balzer, Hal Goodman, Al Gordon and Joel Kane It was directed by Don Weis. I was amazed at the amount of familiar faces appearing - Edward Andrews as The Chief of OSA Jesse White as Mr. Finney, Department Store Manager Sheliah Welles as Gloria Dickinson Richard Merrifield as OSA Agent Tony Lawrence Al Checco as Dr Kramer Nelson Olmstead as Airline Pilot Leon Askin as Russian Agent Dick Wilson as Evol - Russian Agent and the voice of Bob Hastings dubbed for the OAS Agent in the office scene. Good special effects for '66, of course the use of the laugh track is off-putting and I can see why Mr Young decided to pass on the series. An interesting curio worth checking out at least once

Vega$: The Man Who Was Twice (1980)
Season 2, Episode 19
9/10
A highlight of season two.
4 May 2013
Warning: Spoilers
A very well-plotted and well-acted season two episode actually filmed in 1979 with a show-stopping performance by Jim Bailey who does some great numbers both in costume and sans makeup as 'Jeremy Welles'. Darleen Carr is also good as a possible suspect. An uncredited Eric Braeden's voice is used to good advantage as 'Martin'. I won't go into detail for those who have yet to see this episode. Bill Fletcher is also a stand out as another possible suspect. You have to concentrate on the plot as it unfolds, as it is quite complex. Check out the Video Cassette Recorder timer from 1979, just when the machines were in their infancy. In all a very good episode. You can tell why Jim Bailey is so popular and talented to this day.

Top TV Western. Great Music. Great Cast.
26 April 2013
Warning: Spoilers
I agree that this TV Western is worth your time. Ernest Borgnine and Sammy Davis Jr play well together. Watch fast for a young William Katt as Borgnine's son. The character of El Grande is played by the excellent Gary Marshal of Camelot (1967) and The Thousand Plane Rain (1968, released July 1969). In this production he is credited as 'Caleb Brooks'. though I do not know why. His performance is memorable and it is a shame he did not do more work on film. His career has been mostly on the stage where his considerable vocal talents have been wowing audiences for many years. Fans also remember him fondly in three episodes of Marlo Thomas' That Girl series playing British Photographer Noel Prince. He can also be viewed in the Vegas (1979) episode 'Lost Monday' as Dr Middleton as well as a cameo in George Clooney's Intolerable Cruelty. Back to the film...I have always enjoyed the music in this production and the script is above average. I can see how it would have made for an entertaining feature film.

Great Binzer episode.
25 April 2013
Warning: Spoilers
Filmed in 1979 and airing in 1980, this episode is a showcase for Bart Braverman. He gets to play tough-guy and also exercises his vocal talents on stage. Dick Sargent has a fine time and is totally believable as a ruthless 'mechanic'. Tige Andrews is on hand as the top bad guy and Mary Ann Mobley is perfectly cast as the villainous hypnotist. Greg Morris talented son Phil Morris makes an impressive appearance. It would have been a nice touch if he had shared a scene with his father. Actor/singer Gary Marshall(with two L's) appears as Dr. Middleton, not Penny Marshall's brother, Garry as erroneously listed in the IMDb credits.

Fine Intelligent TV Movie Should Have Been A Series
31 March 2013
Warning: Spoilers
I managed to record this film, actually filmed in 1970 not 1971 or 1973, way back in the very early 1980s on my Beta Recorder! It grabs your attention from the beginning and as the story unfolds, a slew of familiar faces appear before you. For some reason Roger Bowen's voice was dubbed by Vic Perrin. John Vernon is a very commanding lead and along with his role in The Questor Tapes, should have given him more opportunities to play the good guy. This film does indeed have the classic line 'Stop the Monkeys' , first spoken by Steve Ihnat and then by John Vernon. Fritz Weaver is top rate as always and John Schuck also adds quiet menace to the proceedings. It's a shame it never made it as a series, I'm sure it could have been a very intelligent and edge of your seat show.

Quaint family film.
30 March 2013
Warning: Spoilers
Having owned an ex-rental VHS of this film, I was amazed it was released on DVD this year...with totally new opening and closing credits and songs all dated on screen as 2005! The film was actually made in 1972 as you can clearly see on the VHS print which was released in the early 1980s. For some reason it is listed as being produced in either 1975 or in some cases as late as 1978. As mentioned the totally new opening credits, while keeping in tune with film, cuts some funny opening bits and begins when Rose Marie enters the workshop. The new songs and music work very well in the DVD release I must admit, even though the VHS print is actually more sharp than the DVD. Spencer Milligan is 'introduced' in this film and Jed Allan plays an early 70s Hippie. Both would appear together, though not share any scenes, in the director's best effort - the 1974 classic 'The Photographer' with a superb performance by Michael Callan. The film probably works better for young audiences, though the grown-ups will be amused by the banter between Paul Winchell and Spencer Milligan. Stu Gilliam over-acts as the Deputy, though Joe Higgins is fine as The Sheriff, Richard Deacon is also in his element. Ron Masak and Cheryl Miller make a likable duo and Buddy Lester chews the scenery and gets to mangle a few of the toys. Rose Marie is fine in her few scenes. One too many chase scenes and visits from the Sheriff become slightly annoying after a while. The film would have been better at around the eighty minute mark. In all not a bad way spend a Saturday afternoon if you are in a nostalgic mood.

A Feel-Good Treat From The Early 70s
4 December 2012
Warning: Spoilers
I have always enjoyed this film since the first time I saw it on video in the early 1980s. I bought the DVD a while back and though it has a few scratches and film lines, it adds to the feel of nostalgia. Monte Markham as Joe Maroney and Mark Miller as Charlie McClain play well off each other. Susan Oliver as Sugar McClain, excellent as always, has one of the worst hair styles I have ever seen. Why they did not let her keep her natural blonde hair is beyond me. David Doyle has a fun chatty role at the airport and Slim Pickens is always a delight as 'Captain Deter' aka The Sheriff. Sissy Spacek as Ginger Brown is perfectly cast and gets to show a range of emotions as well as her singing talent. Shot in 1972, though usually listed as 1973 or 1974, it has an excellent soundtrack that will stick in your mind long after you have watched it. The locations are interesting and the story begins as a quiet romance until Mark Miller enters....The Fred Ward as Truck Driver is not the star of such films as Southern Comfort, The Right Stuff and Remo Williams, however, it is an African American actor who is driving the pickup at the film's opening who tells Ginger to be careful.

Heartwarming Family Entertainment
23 May 2010
Warning: Spoilers
This very entertaining and heartwarming Canadian television film, produced in 2009 and airing here as Family Gathering on the Hallmark Channel is a must see for the whole family. Top Billed Natasha Henstridge (giving her usual exceptional performance) plays Lisa Rayborn who returns home for mother's funeral, having spent the last 20 years in New York. She decides to stay in he country and help with the family farm, along the way adopting an unwanted dog which her father Clay takes an instant disliking to. Her brother Jim on the other hand is delighted to have a natural sheep herder in the family. Good music, great scenery and a fine cast including Harry Hamlin, Lawrence Dane and Anthony Lemke as Lisa's love interest make it all the more enjoyable.

Unusual 1977 Film with Talented Cast
5 December 2009
Warning: Spoilers
A totally different kind of film, actually completed in 1977 as the copyright is clearly etched in the end credits. For some reason it was not released until 1983 according to some sources. Talented cast and incredible dialog make this a must-see for aficionado's of off-beat entertainment. The always dependable Jeff Corey displays his talent once again and Ruta Lee is also in fine form. Ty Hardin is well cast as the heavy of the piece. Top Billed Vincent Van Patten, fresh from his 'Bionic Boy' appearance on The Six Million Dollar Man is also well cast. Too bad this was never released on DVD. I'd love to hear a commentary from the director and cast.

Great Fun Great Locations Colorful Sets
1 July 2009
Warning: Spoilers
I recently purchased the wide screen DVD of this film, having an old VHS television print from long ago. The film has the always super cool Fred Williamson doing what he does best. Keye Luke supplies the voice of Kumada. Keye Luke also supplied the voice for both Hahn and several other characters in Enter The Dragon. An enjoyable slice of 70's action with interesting camera angles a good location work. It's shame to see the always stalwart Paul Mantee wasted yet again in a nothing role as Jack Ging's Henchman. That aside, the rest of the cast does well. John Orchard and Byron Webster seem to be enjoying themselves and have ample screen time over the one hundred plus minutes.

Adam West Lost Classic NOW FOUND!
28 February 2009
Warning: Spoilers
How can you go wrong with a cast like this: Adam West, Nancy Kwan, Nehemiah Persoff, Robert Alda, Patricia Smith, Chick Chandler, Mark Roberts, George Neise and Buddy Greco (who not only acts, but sings the memorable theme song twice!) A very old 80s Video company called K&C Video released this film and I bought a brand new Beta print for $60! in 1980... It was shown a few times many years ago on local television but has never had a deserved DVD release. O.K. maybe it's not the best film Adam West ever made, but hey, he gets to have a lot of action scenes, drives a cool car, has some great scenes with Nehemiah Persoff as well as with the gorgeous Nancy Kwan. What more could you want? Intrigue, a catchy theme song, interesting locations and a cameo by David Brian all add up to an hour and a half of quite decent entertainment. I have watched this film so many times over the years that my poor Beta tape has had it! Please release this on DVD with a commentary by surviving cast members and maybe even a featurette. UPDATE May 28 2013 OLIVE FILMS released a fantastic print in both DVD and Blu Ray. I have the DVD version and I am very impressed.

Has Anyone seen this film?
28 February 2009
Being an Adam West fan from the time I was old enough to watch television, I have followed his career with interest over the years and this title has always confounded me as well as my fellow West fans. All anyone knows it that he stars along with the gorgeous Sherry Jackson and the dependable Jeremy Slate. It has been mentioned in a book called Creature Features but does it really exist or has someone made it up to confuse the many genre fans out there. Was it one of those video taped TV dramas like Distant Early Warning, Alien Lover and Death In Space, all of which I have seen. Or if it does exist, is it a forgotten feature film that has been lying dormant in the vaults for over 35 years? Surely someone must have seen it or has a print available. PLEASE RELEASE THIS FILM for the myriad of fans out there!

Classic 70s Drama Cool Cast
28 February 2009
Warning: Spoilers
OK so maybe this isn't the best made-for-TV film in the world. But how can you go wrong with a cast like this...The gorgeous and talented Barbara Eden(one of my boyhood crushes), stunning in both her style and presence, smooth-talking and ice-cold Robert Vaughn in a role tailer-made for his persona and underrated Stuart Whitman (one my favorite actors), who gets to go swimming with Barbara! A cameo by Larry Storch (which I admit was a waste of his time!) and solid support from Sidney Chaplin as Robert Vaughn's business associate add to the mix. To be sure it could have been 90 minutes rather than 70 as the ending left me wanting more. But on the whole a decent drama with nice locations and a good music score. the DVD print is exceptional. If you like these stars, it is surely worth a look.

Superb Roddenberry Creation Awaiting a DVD Release.
28 February 2009
Warning: Spoilers
When I first saw this TV Movie in 1974, at the age of eleven, I thought it was great, and now thirty five years later! I still think so... The cast is exceptional, the great JOHN SAXON perfectly cast as hero Dylan Hunt (previously portrayed by stalwart Alex Cord in Genesis II the year before), Lovely Janet Margolin, Icy Diana Muldaur, Gruff John Quade, and the always memorable Ted Cassidy are ably supported by Lew Brown, Aaron Kincaid (in a very entertaining performance), Christopher Carey (who is having a bad hair day!) and Jim Antonio as Dr. Jonathan Connor. Look fast for Majel Barrett as well. I bought a used VHS copy of this film a while back and I have been waiting patiently for it to be released on DVD. It is such a fun movie with great comedic moments, stunning action sequences and exceptional dialog. I would hope that one day they will release a boxed set of Gene's television PILOTS from the 70s, hopefully with commentary by surviving cast members. The loyal fans deserve it as do newcomers who only know Gene from Star Trek.

28 February 2009
Warning: Spoilers
When I first saw this film at two a.m. on a Saturday morning, I was blown away! When it was rerun years later as a midday movie, I was having lunch at work and when a certain scene in the lighthouse came on, EVERYONE in the cafeteria stopped and stared at the screen for a good ten seconds! This was in 1988 and I have never forgotten it! The cast is exceptional- three gorgeous and talented actresses - Barbara Parkins, Tisha Sterling and Sheree North all play their parts exceedingly well. Heading the male side of the cast we have my all-time favorite actor JOHN SAXON in what has to be one his most energetic performances ever! He really shines here and in my opinion, should have been up for an Emmy that year. Next we have reliable Howard Duff, taciturn Robert Reed, a dramatic Leslie Nielsen (another favorite) and the exceptionally sleazy Anthony Zerbe, giving yet another first rate performance. Could anyone ask for a better cast. The music is also perfect as is the location filming. If you get the chance, watch this now classic TV Movie from one of the best decades.

Classic Heston and Cooper
28 February 2009
Warning: Spoilers
I just love this film. For years I had to be content with my old VHS television print. When it was finally released on DVD I was amazed! Beautiful Wide Screen print, sharp and clear which makes for an even more enjoyable viewing experience. I have watched this film easily twenty times since first discovering it back in the late 70s. Always a Chuck fan, my wife and I were fortunate enough to meet the great man when he visited Australia for a Literary Luncheon to promote his book 'In The Arena'. It's still hard to believe he was left us. From the opening shot this film will grip you.It starts off with a good twenty minutes of seafaring action before settling into a solid land based drama in the middle and returning to the sea for an action-packed finale. Featuring the dynamic duo of Charlton Heston and Gary Cooper with top support by Ben Wright, Alexander Knox, Emlyn Williams, Michael Redgrave, Cecil Parker and Virginia McKenna and a truly menacing turn by Richard Harris. A memorable sound track as well!
