The Christmas Lottery (2020 TV Movie)
9/10
Ticks all the Christmas movie boxes, and then some
13 December 2020
This is everything you expect in a Christmas movie. All the feels! A family with deep issues comes together over a holiday crises, and discovers that love is the most important thing.

The twist is that it deals with a very real issue, dementia, and the happily ever after ending doesn't include a magical cure. AMAZING performance by Kay Megan Washington as the mother who is (mostly) aware that everything is slipping away.

The Ridges (2011)

Entertainingly bad

I watched this movie with my daughter, who is a Sophomore at OU, and frequently tells me that it's the most haunted campus in the United States. She was delighted to see this film, and recognized many of the locations.

Having said that, the film is very slow, the plot minimal and the characters are completely generic. The special effects are very odd, as far as we can tell were done on Final Cut 7, attempting to mimic film...? One or two of them were effective, most were just awkward and distracting.

The best thing that's I can say about the film is that it was clearly made by people who love the genre. There are many worse movies out there.

Oculus (2013)

Creepy and atmospheric

I watched this film to see what Karen Gillan got up to after Doctor Who, and I have to admit I was very impressed by her performance. By all of the performances, actually, though there is a very small cast.

As others have said, this movie was not too graphic, but there were some situations so cringe worthy I couldn't watch them anyway. One scene in particular which involved an apple, I just had to turn away from.

As far as formula, my daughter and I took bets on the ending about a third of the way through. I pretty much called it, but wasn't completely sure until the last five minutes. Not too formulaic, not too out of left field, no clear explanation given but a lot implied. I enjoyed this one a lot, but hope that there isn't a sequel, it's very good where it ended.

The Gamers (2002 Video)
9/10
A must see for any gamer
12 August 2006
Having read the other comments there's not much I can add. Don't expect much in the way of production values. The acting... amateurish, but not nearly as bad as described by some. From the very first time I watched the film, I felt that I knew all these people. I have been at least half of them. I could identify with every 'in character' situation that came up, and almost all of the 'out of character' ones. (Disclaimer - I'm a woman who games, so much of the out of character interaction I haven't experienced directly, but I definitely recognized it...) The one thing I have to say is about the ending. YES! I've played in that game!!! (OK, it's more like 'yes, but...') The Latin subtitles are hilarious. I'm going to have to check out the 'empty' subtitles at some time, I suspect there's an easter egg there.

If you've ever gamed, you really ought to see this movie.

If you haven't, keep your eyes out for the next DG production.

Peter Gunn (1989 TV Movie)
8/10
True to the spirit of the original
6 July 2002
I used to watch re-runs of the original Peter Gunn late at night with my father, and picked this one up as a nostalgia piece. I was pleasantly surprised at how well this reflected the 'look and feel' of the 1960's series.

The movie has a nice, period feel to it. The actors are pleasantly understated. The level of blood and gore is unbelievably low considering the amount of gun play that happens. Even the music is true to the original.

Definitely worth seeing.
