Loses its way in second half
17 September 2015
I loved the first half of the first season, but the show lost its way in the second half. The drama became overblown and the bad guys were too one-dimensional. A more easygoing episodic format would work better to show the strengths of the likable lead characters, and take advantage of the premise of Liv's personality changing with each brain she eats.

Six Feet Under and Dead Like Me worked best when each new episode was fun in its own right and mostly standalone. Even Veronica Mars worked well that way -- sometimes Veronica just rescued the school mascots. Here the creators were trying too hard to shoehorn in the scheduled pieces of dramatic arc and forgot to make each episode fun in its own right.

Just dial it back a notch and relax!

Flashes of brilliance

Great 4th episode!

I'm psyched that they've kept the quality high so far.

The formula elements were fine, the Sarah Connor voice-over was above average (meditating on the apt story of the Golem), and there was a nicely scary bit.

Don't wake the sleeping terminator!

The final scene at home was handled with some subtlety, too, with John being nonchalant about his scary day and then noticing his hand shake when he was alone.

I guess this was all done before the writers' strike, because someone good is definitely on the job here.
