Chernobyl (2019)
Sensational
We thoroughly enjoyed this mini-series from start to finish. I do appreciate that there are some inaccuracies compared to actual history. However if you want a well told dramatisation of the events this does it.
I guess if you are Russian or Ukrainian a lot of it may grate especially any of the inaccuracies.
Don't understand the 1star reviews. Even if you don't really enjoy it its never a 1 Star TV series.
About Time (2013)
The Time Travellers Wife and others?
This is not a bad film, just not a great film. The Sqiss summed it up in their review perfectly. There's some good stuff in it but it was bloated and even for Richard Curtis too saccharine. It's very close to The Time Travellers Wife in a lot of respects obviously the huge difference being its a comedy rather than a romance. Speaking of which there was very little chemistry between the two leads but there was a great hook between Dad and Son as The Squiss pointed out in his/her review. I think the girls will probably like this more than the boys but its not a complete waste of time just a wasted opportunity as I think it could have been better.
Happy Valley (2014)
Breathtaking Stunning Exceptional Brilliant
Review updated:-
So glad Sally Wainwright didn't listen to my original view(leave it at a stand alone series)
The third series was pretty much the best thing I have seen on British TV in this genre.
The Trilogy is fabulous.
Original review:-
I cannot fault this Police/Crime drama. The writer has proved again, as with Scott and Bailey she has a feel for UK Policing and the consequences for the victims, offenders and officers involved of the crime. I was pretty much in tears at one point following one of the scenes and was astonished at how amazing Sarah Lancashires' performance was. Thiswas truly BAFTA material all round with faultless performances that's why 10/10. I sincerely hope they do not have a second series but let this remain a one off spectacular piece of TV. I understand a second series has been discussed but why would you risk blemishing a perfectly constructed drama?
Red Riding: The Year of Our Lord 1983 (2009)
Very well acted but.....
This mini series was very well acted and its a good interpretation of the books. They are dark, intense and nasty. Both the books and this series leave you feeling unsatisfied IMO. I enjoyed reading and watching them however and as per my title there are some great performances by pretty much everyone involved. If you read the other reviews those that have rated it 4/10 have made some really valid points which I go along with but I believe the acting drags this up by a couple of points. Special mention to Jim Carter who is brilliant, as always. Why doesn't someone give him the lead in something? He's come a long way since a humble PC in Juliet Bravo (Chief Constable now!)
