Being Brendo (2012)
You'll wish these guys were your friends
The characters, whom most I have never heard of (because I'm a repressed gay American), did such an amazing job not only with their acting, but connecting with me on many levels as queer and the way we have to deal with life and heterosexuals such as the self-absorbed social worker (Pam Strickland) that has no clue that you've been gay-bashed, even though you're black and blue. Typically NOT funny, but funny how he handles her. Or the religious gay conversion group, always funny and even funnier how they deal with them too. They show you the "do's and don't of HIV". I loved all these people and how real they seemed at times and sometimes a bit unreal and over-the-top. I wish I knew these characters in life. They would have taught me a lot. Mostly to get over hang-ups because life is really short.
The Lair (2007)
Totally Embarrassing
I list this under spoilers because this show BLOWS CHUNKS! There, I spoiled it for you... Normally I enjoy really poorly made sci-fi shows with the bad "acting", boom mic in the shot, a lot of plot holes, cheap props & utterly forgettable "actors", but this show actually embarrasses me. They mostly rely on the sex scenes to keep people interested which is funny since most of the people are either low budget porn models with bodies that are less than remarkable. There isn't any special effects and no one has any real interesting our unique abilities, unless you count wearing a lot of eyeliner and the same clothing (in) every episode and the power to OVERACT & OVER EMOTE. You probably won't notice those flaws due to the very loud, distracting and NONSTOP musical score. They literally beat you over the head with it and it never stops. This show failed to keep me interested even with full frontal male nudity. I was hoping it would get better but it just stayed the same.
Adventure Time (2010)
Fresh & surprising every time
Since Cartoon Network decided to cancel a lot of really great cartoons, Adventure time really makes up for the loss. Every episode is a psychedelic and humorous. It catches me off-guard every time. The characters are adorable, creative and charming, no two are the same. The simplicity of the animation is overlooked due to the clever humor. Okay sometimes even the humor is simple but placed at just the right moment. I've never enjoyed a cartoon more than this. It's even better than Flapjack which at first glance seems to mimic, but no, it's totally different.
I've loved cartoons since the 70's and I rarely rate them as 10 but this one to me is fresh and surprising every time. I think any age would love this cartoon.
Dude, What Would Happen (2009)
What would happen if they canceled this show
If the excessive use of the word "dude" does not get on your nerves, the unprompted screaming over stunts that aren't actually stunts will. I make a point to turn off my TV when this show is on. I don't know anyone who watches this show nor do I know of any kid that acts as spastic as this trio, plus the fact that "this is NOT a cartoon". For some reason Cartoon Network has decided that non-animated shows belong on their {cartoon}network. As of 2010 they have canceled a lot of really good cartoons only to be replaced with junk like this. Three over-excited teenage kids ranting, screaming, freaking out and OVER-ACTING about nothing. The only people that seem to (really) like this show are the kids hosting it. I'm sure they are directed to act this way to hype it up, but when you try to watch a few minutes of it, you wonder why they are so ecstatic, screaming and jumping all over the screen like they just won the lottery. I wonder if they would act the same way if someone said, Dude, what would happen if we canceled this show?
The Code Conspiracy (2002)
7 out of 10? really?
Clearly females were the majority that watched this horrendous film and felt it deserved a high rating. The story is vague and full of plot-holes, the acting is awful, everyone in it looks like they are in re-hab and no one told them they just don't have "the look" for movies. Especially Maria Conchina-needsta-shorten-her-name-Alonso-espresso. Her face looks like its melting. A lot of times it looked like they rubbed Vaseline on the lends to make her look better. There are many scenes that appear to be "misplaced" and make no sense. They didn't bother to edit (much). You kind of expect a sci-fi film at the start but it's far from it. I can't imagine how it got such a high rating. It's lack luster cast, it's sub par story, mediocre acting and predictable ending hardly makes this anything but a 1 star rated film.
