Some Like It Hot (1959)
Overrated and not very funny comedy
This movie has appeared on television countless times but I was never able to sit through it until recently. I still don't find this movie very funny. Neither Curtis nor Lemon look like a woman. Neither has the build of a woman. They are both too broad and look took masculine so how they can fool everyone for almost the entire picture is beyond my comprehension.
One of the genuinely funny scenes was toward the end when Spats got his comeuppance at his surprise early birthday bash.
I found Marilyn Monroe's performance quite good. She may be the only actress who looks as beautiful in black and white as in color. I imagine it may have something to do with her platinum blonde hair.
Le trou normand (1952)
A well written and acted comedy
This is a very unpretentious, likeable movie.
I thought the entire cast including Brigitte Bardot did an excellent acting job. I was surprised Bardot had such a big role considering this was her first picture. No disappointment here that she's a brunette. As I remember she also ended her career as a brunette in the picture Don Juan.
It's a feel good story. It's about a lovable simpleton who goes back to elementary school. In the process he wins the hearts of virtually all the people in the small village. It's somewhat of a Forrest Gump tale but on a much smaller scale.
