Among the best of Zelda games
10 June 2003
I think "The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker" deserves a place right alongside "Ocarina of Time". A vast amount of people who call themselves 'fans' downed this game for a couple of reasons that I have read from previous reviews: they hated the graphics and they hated the fact that it actually takes TIME to sail around the ocean. I, personally, thought the game was beautiful to look at. Besides, who wants the same old thing every time? Cel-shading was a very wise and unique move, and I love the characters' facial expressions in this game, something you didn't see much of in the previous Zelda games. And as far as sailing on the ocean goes, I enjoyed the scenery. It DID get a little dull at times, especially sailing from one end of the screen to the other with no warp song accessible. But nevertheless, it didn't take any enjoyment of the game away from me. Exploring the towns was nice, and fighting the bosses was very entertaining. The game isn't too long, though it took me about a week and a half to beat it because I was in college at the time I had purchased it. Overall, "The Wind Waker" is an outstanding game and offers the player many extensive, entertaining hours of gameplay. 10/10

Simply the best
12 March 2003
Warning: Spoilers
"The Legend of Zelda" is without a doubt the best action/adventure series in video game history, putting the small stuff like "Final Fantasy" to shame. When I first played it, Ocarina of Time completely exceeded my expectations, as it did with countless other people. Ocarina of Time has a simple, but magnificent plot: a boy must fulfill his destiny, which is to save the world of Hyrule. I'm not going to give any spoilers in this review because to give away any part of this game would be cruel. People who say this game stinks or is no good obviously don't appreciate good gaming. Ocarina of Time is a definite winner. 10/10

One of Kubrick's more down-to-earth films
18 February 2003
I didn't think this was a typical Stanley Kubrick film (The Shining, 2001: A Space Odyssey), but it was still outstanding nonetheless. R. Lee Ermey gives a solid, unforgettable performance in this movie, as do Matthew Modine and Vincent D'Onofrio. Ermey (in a hilarious and terrifying role as Sgt. Hartman), Modine (as the head-strong "Joker" who had the guts to make a wise-crack to Hartman), and D'Onofrio (who gained 70 pounds to play his role as the slow-witted, chubby "Gomer Pyle") were definitely the main highlights of the film, giving Academy Award-worthy performances. With those three stars and a few particularly powerful moments, this film is saved from being noted as "just another war film". I give this 9/10.
