Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle (2003)
Trash
What an incredible trash movie. The only bright moments are the appearences of John Cleese. No wonder, since he seems to be the only real actor on the cast. Otherwise, nothing but a long braindead MTV video. So anything this movie has going for it? Sure, T&A galore, but face it: an issue of Playboy is cheaper, and much less of a waste of time. But then again, John Cleese isn't in Playboy.
The Hours (2002)
Death by The Hours
I saw this movie with two friends - one thought it was "intense", the other called it "amazing". They are right, in a way: this movie is intensely boring and amazingly insignificant. In part, it is a story about the choice between life and death, or the preference of death over a life that is worse than death. Given the choice between death and this film, I am not sure I'd choose the latter.
Adaptation. (2002)
The ending, the ending...
I agree with most other comments who criticize this movie. I loved the first hour and a half, but the ending, the ending... Someone suggested that the ending itself is a stroke of genius, since its a criticism of typical Hollywood flicks using that kind of ending. Me, I get reminded of a quote I once read on a Type O Negative album: "Don't mistake lack of talent for genius". Of course there MAY be deeper thought in choosing this ending, but honestly, I still feel I'd think better of this movie had it only ended after 90 minutes.
Bowling for Columbine (2002)
Must see
This is an outstanding movie. It is one of the most insightful, yet at the same time most amusing pieces I have ever seen. There is only one negative thing I can think of about this documentary, and even this could be considered a plus. While Moore criticises the media in the US for creating a perception of constant danger among the public, he himself creates a similar emotion. While I was watching this movie, I found myself seriously considering leaving the theater and moving to Canada. But like I said, you can consider this a plus of the film as well, since it practically illustrates one of its major points. As a final remark, seeing the footage of GWB, I could not help being reminded once again of a quote from the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy that "anyone who is capable of getting themselves made President should on no account be allowed to do the job."
The Sweetest Thing (2002)
better than expected
If you keep your expectations low, it's more likely to be positively surprised... but seriously, even with somewhat higher expectations, this one is worth watching. I saw it as a "filler" on a flight, trying to save some of the "better" movies for the return trip. This movie actually turned out to be much more entertaining than all those I saved... ;))
Swordfish (2001)
Bad, bad, bad, bad, bad movie.
That's all there is to say about this one. If you want to see a good hacker movie, see War Games. If you want to see a good action movie, Arnold has plenty. If you want to see a good John Travolta movie, sorry, there isn't any. And only, I mean ONLY, if you want to see Halle Berry's boobs, well, then you might just be stuck with this one.
