Silence (2016)
The Cruelty of Men
In "Silence", Martin Scorsese tackles a difficult and rather controversial subject -- Religion. I'm sure many people will see this as a love letter to Christianity, perhaps. That some people never lose their faith. Some may view it as completely anti- Christian. They came to other countries to force their beliefs onto others. I choose to see it as a display of how cruel we can be to each other just for believing in different things.
I believe in freedom of religion. You may choose to believe whatever you want as far as I'm concerned, as long as it doesn't involve inflicting pain upon others. We see the cruelty of men in all people, regardless of their faith. Some may choose to use their faith to rationalize using violence. My point is, it doesn't matter what we believe, as long as we treat each other well.
As to how the film is shot, directed and edited - this is a masterpiece. It starts off a bit slow, but once it gets going it doesn't stop. Scorsese is firing on all cylinders here. The actors, especially Garfield are all perfect and he could probably have received an Oscar nod, had he not already got one for "Hacksaw Ridge".
Despite its length, this film never got boring and was a real breath of fresh air. I'm really looking forward to Scorsese's next picture.
Grade: 9/10. By an atheist Swede.
Setup (2011)
Forced dialogue and filled with clichés
I went in with low expectations on this movie, and got pretty disappointed anyway. I figured an action thriller with Bruce Willis had to be seen though, and in the end he saved the movie from a really low score.
Almost all the lines in the movie seems like it was written by someone who just watched a bunch of crime thrillers and wanted to squeeze in as many clichés as possible. You can see all the "twists" coming a mile away and the rest of the plot was really predictable as well.
Fortunately we only have to endure about 80 minutes worth, but it feels like at least 120 minutes. The only enjoyable parts were Willis' scenes.
If you are a die hard (pun intended) Bruce Willis fan this might pass for entertainment, otherwise i recommend you skip it.
The Office (2001)
Excellent.
I have never ever seen a TV-show that has made me laugh so hard and made me look away at the same time, because it's so damn awkward.
David Brent, the man who is so full of himself it's frightening, creates situations that is hilarious and extremely awkward.
In a way, his own ego is the main character in this show. He thinks he is the funniest man alive, the greatest boss ever and that he isn't prejudice in any way.
Watch the show and find out how much is actually true.
Recommended for everyone, except anyone who has problems with embarrassing situations. 9/10. Marvelous!
Two and a Half Men: Fish in a Drawer (2008)
Genius
Just when I thought this show couldn't get any better.
This episode is among the best there is! The CSI-like effects and style were awesome. I laughed so hard every time. And even a cameo from George Eads :)
I hope there will be more of these "parody-episodes" 'cause it's hilarious. Maybe not more parodies of CSI, but there's plenty of shows out there just waiting to be parodied.
I don't understand people who bash this episode of being a crossover. Is it supposed to be serious? No. Then don't take it seriously. Just try to have a good time.
The Ninth Gate (1999)
Extremely underrated
I have finally decided to write my piece of mind about this masterpiece. This underrated, dark piece of cinema. This is actually my favorite Polanski film. And that says a lot, I think.
One of very few films I can not see a flaw in. Everybody is perfectly cast (I can admit though, as many have stated before me, that "The Girl" could have been played by someone else). Polanski's style is very comfortable to watch. Kilar's Soundtrack is mesmerizing, soothing and gives that mystical feel that few movies have. Repetitive, yes -- But beautiful never the less.
Depp as the antihero Corso is unforgettable. He's no saint, but we feel for him and understand his choices. Langella portrays Balkan perfectly, and gives the movie the edge it needs. And let's not forget Olin, who makes a solid role as Mrs Telfer.
I have watched this movie once a year for the last three years, and at each viewing, raised my rating for it by one point. Starting at 7/10, I now believe that it at least deserves 9/10. This movie really takes its time with each plot point, which is rare these days. I think You should watch this movie and just enjoy movie-making at its finest. These 2 hours and 13 minutes just fly by and leaves you wanting more.
Citizen Kane (1941)
The Greatest Movie Ever - Or One Of The Worst?
I remember when I was a kid and I really started to get interested in movies. Fifteen years ago I wanted to see as much film as I possibly could, and I still watch 1-4 movies a day. To watch a movie is for me to disconnect everything that's on your mind and walk into another world.
My favorite film was The Good, The Bad & The Ugly. (It still is top 5 for me.) Since I was so young, I had problems watching Black&White movies. I didn't like dramas, thought they were boring. I asked my dad; "Which movie is the greatest ever?" He responded; "Citizen Kane is considered to be the best." We watched it the same evening. I think i fell asleep for a while. It was Black&White, it was boring. It didn't seem to go anywhere. I never got the point of it. OK so it was a sled, big deal? Now fifteen years later I have grown a bit. I love Black&White movies and have no problems watching dramas. Yet when I try to watch Citizen Kane I realize that it doesn't matter how much I have grown. I simply can not understand why people like it.
I can not describe my feelings for this film, but I can try... I would rather watch paint drying on a wall than watch this movie. It makes me nauseous.
My recommendation to you is to pass on this movie, unless you want to go to sleep or need to vomit. Watch "Pulp Fiction" or "One Flew over The Cuckoo's Nest" instead. You will thank me.
