Bob Hearts Abishola (2019)
I Indifferent Bob And Abishola
I watched this monstrosity and was appalled. Bob Hearts Abishola was tragedy without heart. Christine Ebersole, once a talented stage actress, must need money (and a lot of it) to portray the female equivalent of Donald Trump. The series' writers and actors mocked and ridiculed those suffering with ovarian cancer, cardiac disease, stroke, and disfigurement as if their apparently charmed lives will never be touched by such devastating, catastrophic diseases. The show featured hateful, malicious banter among hostile stereotypes without a single redeeming joke in any of it. The laugh track was on full blast because nothing humorous was said or done. Nearly every boring, bland character was depicted as sociopathic to garner quick, cheap laughs. The biggest tragedy was watching Ebersole throw away her career for a few bucks. While not a gifted stage actress with charisma such as Patti Lupone, Ebersole had talent and apparent grace. Now she is a sell-out hack who is dubbed "Christine Eberstroke" because of her outrageously cringeworthy, repugnant character, Dottie Wheeler. The writers wanted the characters to not only be laughed at, but to be maliciously mocked. Ebersole seemed to believe snarling her surly face and slurring her speech like a drunkard passed for a sufferer of stroke (all done for the cheapest of laughs). I will watch again if the cast and crew bravely don their MAGA hats and take a final bow. So much goodwill could have been created by genuine writers. One star for the series' title. Zero stars for the worst excuse for a series in decades.
