Not much happens in Another Year. Externally. But within the characters, Leigh exposes the vast bittersweetness of life. This is a wonderful, moving film that requires a little empathy for the poor souls that surround Tom and Geri.

Harsh Criticism
30 October 2021
Im not sure what these reviewers expected: an actual blood sacrifice at the end?! This is 1966, the good guys HAVE to win, and the atmosphere was creepy and the ENDING was also creepy. How was the ending bad, or anticlimatic?

Fell Asleep

Other than Sting's scene this was a very boring movie. You can make existential films WITH some movement: they dont have to be dreary like this one.

Not History, But Entertaining
17 March 2020
Of course, this movie is hilariously inaccurate, but when I first viewed it I was 14 and knew nothing of The Beatles. I thought it was cool then and I still like the look of the film. The music is also fun to hear. So, find your Beatles history elsewhere; just sit back and enjoy.

Ruby and Oswald (1978 TV Movie)
7/10
Very Accurate Film
8 June 2019
Pretty accurate movie. According to all evidence at that time, this movie was very factual. Forrest gives a pretty good portrayal, though his smirk was not quite Oswald-like. Contrary to what one other reviewer says, Ruby WAS a fan of the President and according to witnesses who knew him he was desolate over the assassination.

A great movie, not to be taken literally. Superb performance by Lili Taylor.

Search Party (2016–2022)
9/10
Hilarious Original Comedy With Great Scripts
23 November 2016
I have no idea what the other three reviewers were watching, but I truthfully could not stop laughing. I'm 51, so I doubt this show was aimed at my demographic (according to advertisers, the fact that I'm past the age of 49 means I either I don't exist or I don't consume, or both). My bete noir is bad scriptwriting, where every scene can be predicted, and the characters are one dimensional; this show didn't fall into that trap ONCE! After the first scene, I assumed that the Drew character, Dory's boyfriend, was a narcissistic simp, but as the first episode continued, he was shown to be an OK guy, who truly loves Dory, or at least, really cares for her. I have watched eight episodes on On Demand, each one is funny and touching; touching because Dory is such a vulnerable, relatable, 3 dimensional character. Give it time, and make sure you're actually watching "Search Party" and not the apparently horrible show the above reviewers watched.

Who Is the Black Dahlia? (1975 TV Movie)
9/10
Eerie, atmospheric.
23 August 2002
I too was frightened the first time I saw this TV movie. It tells the story of the short life, and gruesome, unsolved 1947 murder of Elizabeth Short, whose nickname was the Black Dahlia, a type of flower. There is a certain creepiness that pervades this low-key period story, told in flashbacks of Short's brief Los Angeles existence before her slaughter. Efram Zimbalist, Jr., portrays the detective who becomes obsessed with the young, attractive woman's story. The period details feel right, for I am too young to have any first-hand experience of the time, and Lucie Arnaz's performance as the doomed title character adds emotional weight to what could have been an exploitive picture. This is another example of how superior, in general, '70's made-for-television movies were to future endeavors.
