Worse than Call of Duty.
13 April 2022
This movie is a pain to watch. Totally unrealistic weapons and gun fights. Poor cinematography. I have seen better acting in a pantomime. Do something better with your time! Play Call of Duty! It is more realistic than this movie!

Dunkirk (2017)
10/10
A masterpiece of cinema!
14 March 2020
Warning: Spoilers
I am surprised by the negative reviews. I can only imagine is due to a heroic view of war and Dunkirk evacuation in particular. The sound creates an atmosphere that matches the occasion throughout the movie. There may not be a classic view of war in this movie, but with every scene, the movie captures the details of the evacuation from all aspects of the soldiers involved: Navy, Army, RAF, French Army, civilians . The fact that the enemy is never visible, bar a few planes and silhouettes of soldiers is very powerful! This movie is a masterpiece! Only if you look with a jingoistic view at this movie you could find faults. Dunkirk was a retreat, not a victory! I guess that wasn't understood by many that keep an Imperial Britain view of the world! The movie is a great homage to the soldiers and civilians of the time and a very down to ground view of the events.

NRA propaganda!

Predictable action, poor execution. This movie is nothing but shameless NRA propaganda! No value whatsoever! Don't waste your time!

Dreadful!
15 December 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Half the time I didn't know what was going on. A lot of product placements. A lot of continuity errors- enough to confuse the story. Not enough characters development. Do yourself a favour! Read a book for 2 hrs!

Combat Countdown (2012– )

Lightweight presentation of military gear.
1 June 2019
Each episode has a theme: power, speed, armour etc and covers 'the best' for that theme. The selections are ok, but often forced to fit the theme. The coverage of each military asset is from light to very light. Some of the 'experts' are questionable- Rory Reid minion of Top Gear is one of them!!!! Sometimes, in the many footage sequences representing whatever asset they're talking about, usually a plane, the wrong planes are used! 'The F/A 18 Hornet has awesome firepower' - while they show you a F 14 doing a roll... A mediocre documentary, light on facts. More like a promotion for joining the military, aimed at undiscerning 16 year olds.

Enjoyable comedy!
2 January 2019
I guess we live in a Trump/Brexit era when being xenophobic is acceptable! I get it you cannot read subtitles, but that is a reflection of yourself, not the movie! I really don't get the negative reviews for this movie! People need to relax! Is not an Oscar performance, but an enjoyable comedy! Not to be taken seriously! Jeeez! A 10/10 from me, just to annoy the gammon! But is really a funny movie also!

Excellent action movie!
1 January 2019
I wasn't going to review, but was annoyed at the negative reviews with very low score given without much explanation. I sense someone is trying to manipulate the score! AJ, maybe?! Who knows? In any case, this is a brilliant action movie, with well built characters, fluid action, excellent stunts and effects. Alicia Vikander is superb in this movie, she must have spend most of her time in the gym and training! It shows! Any normal person would give an above average score, at least! Don't believe the very negative reviews! If they come from gamers, we'll they are wrong. Even some of the action sequences almost play like a game! I consider this as the first TR movie, as the previous ones were Hollywood cliches! Bring on the next one! Cannot wait!

Save yourself the time and don't watch this!
22 August 2018
I stopped watching half way through! The original was cheesy, but if slap kind of worked. This is tripe, predictable, cliche, cheap, disappointing, unfunny, crass for no reason. Why?!!!! An affront to cinema!

Avoid!
1 April 2018
Acting was a bit wooden. The story had potential, but was poorly executed. Characters were not that interesting, I didn't care too much about them. A lot of obvious flaws in the execution of the trip! It wasn't scary or sad, just tedious. Avoid this one!

Pretty good, if flawed!

Warning: Spoilers
I found this movie quite entertaining, didn't mind certain inaccuracies, good acting and story line.

But all in vain as the movie, the story is ruined by the silly twist at the end! Shame really! An opportunity missed.

Unwatchable
28 February 2018
I gave the first series a try and struggled to the end. Then second series arrived and just couldn't force myself to continue.

Jack Dee is terribly unfunny in this, actually he is kind of creepy.

A lot of good comedians and actors are in this, but somehow it doesn't fall into place. It is difficult to watch, the stories are unfunny, the 'humour' is rare.

I don't find Josh Widdicombe funny in most occasions - he sparked a bit on the stand-up circuit some time ago, but now is out of date. Expired.

What a mess!
27 January 2018
A new mother that obviously has some medical issues, goes on holiday alone to a Muslim country. It looks like a cheap holiday, based on the taxi used. The troubles start from there... Who does that?!!!!

The plot has holes the size of the ones in the ozone layer!

I only watched it because the chase was mildly entertaining and wanted to see how more messy the plot would get.

The acting is not great, direction is ok, but hard to work with this story line! The only really bad movie I watched to the end. Straight to video trash - in this case, dumped on Netflix, who are not doing themselves a favour, having crap like this on their list.

A masterpiece!
15 December 2007
Warning: Spoilers
This movie contains a fragment of life exactly as it was in Romania in 1987. The story is told without protecting the viewer from the realities presented. Life then was like that - some were protected by 'playing' the system - like the family of Otilia's boyfriend. This is how the majority of Romanians lived their lives and avoided the punishment of the regime. It was considered 'stupid' to do otherwise. Until you do get caught in the middle like the girls did. You didn't have to complain or protest against the regime - the regime would come and find you if you weren't careful. This is what a lot of people in the West don't understand about life behind the iron curtain. This film shows this bluntly. Indeed this is the best Romanian movie I have ever seen so far. And is one of the best I have ever seen!

Difficult book to put on screen!
4 May 2007
Warning: Spoilers
I watched the film recently and it poorly resembles the book is based on. I blame this on poor screenplay and direction. Some parts were forcibly introduced (the gay rape scene) for no apparent reason. I actually read the book after watching the movie and some 20 years or so after reading it for the first time. I found it hard to read and somewhat clumsy. Too many disparate ideas introduced for no benefit at all... other than sensational parts for the time. As it covers stuff that was deemed 'sensitive', to say the least, during communism, I can see the fascination it produced at the time. That isn't the case anymore though or maybe I see things differently now or a bit of both. The film tries too much to cover many aspects from the book, the result being a concoction of scenes that may make some sense to someone who read the book. Even so this is a film that is difficult to watch and maybe should have never been made.
