Harsh Reviews
30 March 2021
Some of these 1🌟 reviews are so harsh- saying it's just about making soup and a bike breaking down. Erm, you're forgetting the rat! There was a whole storyline about trying to catch a rat- surely this pushes it up a bit? But seriously though, you have to kind of accept these eps for what they are: a post-finale miniseries about the emptiness after the event. A post-apocalyptic world must have some boring stretches of nothingness just like a pre-apocalyptic world does. It's just that it's not particularly entertaining to watch, even if it is a bit easier to shoot during lockdown.

Who Is America?: Episode #1.1 (2018)
Season 1, Episode 1
6/10
Hit and Miss
17 July 2018
Warning: Spoilers
While this episode does expose how many republican politicians are dim enough to support a spoof initiative training young children to use guns, this probably isn't news to most people. The first half of this episode is cringeworthy, and only really exposed that people are willing to be polite and tolerant of some ridiculous views and ideas. The Bernie Sanders interview is very odd and I'm not sure what prompted SBC to keep this in at all, let alone have it as the first scene of the series. Cohen is undoubtedly a master satirist, but here the characters are too numerous, not as real (in a visual or ideological sense) as his previous characters, and not as funny or clever. There's still some good material here, though one has to question whether such elaborate techniques are still required to expose these morons in 2018.

Black Dynamite without the irony
21 March 2018
Genuinely so bad that I can't stop watching it. All the cliches of blacksploitation era productions like Shaft that were satirised in Black Dynamite are back here as if it's something novel. It's actually shamefully addictive and has an evil albino villain who belongs in an Austin Powers movie. Watch it- it's so terrible you won't be able to look away!
