Red Dwarf: Back to Earth (Part One) (2009)
Oh dear...
The reboot of Red Dwarf by Dave has more in common with the failed US pilot than the original.
Oh dear.
Plus point. It has the same cast minus the dim witted ships computer of norman lovett. With the added cast member of Sophie Winkleman a.k.a, big suze from peep show fame.
Minus Points. Trying to make the show main stream to appeal to the US audience which in turn has killed the whole appeal of the show. Gone is the quirky humor and replaced with a script and screen play which has painfully been edited by a corporate marketing hack. Production values are fine for the low budget but red dwarf was never really about wow them special effects. A £10 toaster painted red with a light bulb in it raised more laughs than this whole episode. Which sadly explains why this reboot has missed the mark.
Postal (2007)
I'm shocked!!!
OK this is by no means a classic.. but it made me laugh. More that 3 times... if you go by the mark kermode rating on BBC radio 5. Which is better than some trash movies out there like the remake of starchy and hutch. Which I sat through and didn't laugh at all.
Lots of in gags and the black comedy is quite good. Anyone spot the terrorist play dance dance revolution... probably not. And it takes the whole movie game trashy genre in a tong in cheek manner. Like Uwe Boll fighting the programmer that made postal for ruining his film :)
It's well worth watching drunk.
A 6 out of 10!!!!!
DOA: Dead or Alive (2006)
As a normal movie it's V Poor, but as a cheesy action no Brain fun fest it's a good 8/10
Do not take this movie as a kill bill action style fighting style fest...
it's not..
yes the action is fun to watch and there's lots, no story as in the dead or alive fighting games and ample amount of on screen time if you have a foot and hands viewing fetish with some in-gag voyeuristic camera angles in reference to DOAX. And it helps all the girls cast are very easy on the eyes! :)
it's worth a solid 7/10 for pure cheese, tongue in cheek viewing fun alone, just don't expect crouching tiger, hidden dragon! :)
Consuming Passions (1988)
Seemingly the only person in England that remembers this film!
I have fond memories of this film when it first came out. It has probably dated badly in the mean time. But is probably worth a watch for the nypho landlady, budding tips on how to perk up your chocolate making skills with a corpse or two and Wincey Willis?!
