Arcadian (2024)
Just meh
Went into this with somewhat high hopes, given that cages films have got better in the last year or so (less low budget) this however was not one of them.
The premise of the story sounds half good, but we've seen it done countless times now and this needed something to pull you in, unfortunately it just didn't.
There's very little back story on what happened for them to be here in the situation they are in, it is explained somewhat but not in any real detail and you're left guessing.
Without giving any real spoilers it all just felt too easy and not serious enough for me to portray the situation the characters are in.
There's nothing really stand out from any of the performances either, feels like a b movie but not at the same time.
It's a one time watch and you may feel like it as a wasted time too at the end of it.
G'wed (2024)
Embarrassing forced comedy
Just terrible really, couldn't watch a full episode, everything about it is cringeworthy, trying to be a copy of other successful shows which just doesn't work.
A comedy about Liverpool filmed entirely on the Wirral too, just ridiculous to even associate this with scousers or anyone actually from Liverpool.
Seems more like the writers have this impression of Liverpool given that they're not actually from Liverpool, so all they're doing is taking all the phrases they think people will laugh at, not actually about the people or any scouse comedy, just more of a "oh look at the plastic scouser saying funny words"
Hoping it's cancelled so I don't have to see countless cringe adverts for it again like this time.
Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny (2023)
Just stop, enough is enough
If you've seen an indiana Jones movie in the past, you know what to expect, this however is not that.
I'm no sure whether it's the cgi or that the action is pretty poor and boring now. Harrison ford still holds up somewhat, but unfortunately I feel he's just too old now to continue acting, at least in high action fast paced movies.
There's also a major plot hole for me which ruins the whole movie about 10 minutes in.
Jones is on top of a moving train, trying to get away with the artefact, voller is in pursuit, he also ends up on the top it the train, a struggle happens they fight etc, Jones manages to push him away and he then gets hit by a sign made of metal that's stationary on the land beside the high speed moving train, completely throwing him off the train, you'd think we'll that's him dead then, Nope, this was an introductory scene, we then skip forward some years, low and behold he's alive and well and again pursuing the artefact.
I find that a major plot hole, he should be dead, or at least somewhat not who he was, dead is more it though, they then focus the whole movie around Jones and him, which is just ridiculous.
Hopefully they've called it a day and I'll forget these latest movies exist and will stick to the classics in future.
Upload (2020)
Season 1 great season 2 OK, season 3 why
Having watched this for a while now, I was shocked and surprised to see season 3 had been released for a week without me noticing, seems I didn't miss much.
I'm two episodes into season 3 and it's a huge drag already, the end of season two felt similar, this now though has got to the point where I'm wanting the episode to be over.
The comedy aspect has gone, the scenes have no real meaning at all, it feels like a montage or clip show, of look at this and look at that, the story was never strong enough to carry it with no comedy.
It now just seems like a failed rom com sitcom that nobody cares about anymore, the original premise was great but you needed to expand on it and hold a story together, it's now just relying on what it was for any fans still interested.
Sadly I think I'm done with it, it feels repetitive and boring now.
Frasier (2023)
A generous 2
Was honestly looking forward to this reboot, I'd seen a few days earlier of NL making an appearance so I was ever more pleased, still with apprehension that the show would never live up to the original.
Anyone who claims the shows shouldn't be compared are talking rubbish, if they're using the same character (the main character at that) again then it's comparable, frasier will be compared to frasier.
I honestly got 7 minutes into episode 1 and that was enough for me, the laughter track is overdone, jokes and lines are pretty bad, having NL in it feels out of place, the show doesn't have the charm or whit of the original, that alone just makes it another run of the mill sitcom that people won't care about and will be another to the grave after 2 seasons.
Tarnishing the great name of Frasier with this rubbish.
Meg 2: The Trench (2023)
Unbelievably bad
Awful so so bad, script is terrible, the acting not much better.
So many plot holes and so many too far fetched moments, combined with the poor writing, bad actors and a story that just isn't interesting that fails to make sense.
By the half way point it felt more like a b movie or a bad comedy movie that you had to laugh at the stupidity of the writing.
Normally you want the good people to survive, for me this time it's different, I'd of preferred to see them all get eaten or die in the most ridiculous way possible, it actually might have made the film better and killed off any further movies for this poor poor series of movie.
Jason stathom has done some stinkers but this is next level.
No Hard Feelings (2023)
Forced Comedy
I'd went into this with somewhat high expectations given it's JL, then I remembered I'd never really seen her in any ROM COMS, if you can call Passengers a ROM COM maybe?
For me it all just felt forced, constant gag after goof after gag that just wasn't funny, this films been done before too, (failure to launch) the same concept isn't anything new apart from the ethical conundrum for this film, for some people maybe.
JL doesn't suit playing this part, given the bad/boring writing, jokes, gags and characters that you don't really care about, this was a snooze and I couldn't wait for it to finish.
I've watched a lot of ROM COMS over the years to me this was just bad and can say I'll never watch it again.
Silo: The Janitor's Boy (2023)
Good start but that's it
Admittedly I'm only upto episode 5 but it's just become boring, slow and predictable.
Feels like we're being drip fed in each episode, either it's repeating itself or changing the circumstances slightly, with minimal new content in each episode and its pretty poor at that.
I put off watching episode 5 for a number of weeks due to episode 4 becoming boring and I don't feel any different now after 5, another slow burn that doesn't offer much.
A 50 minute episode feels like it has maybe 10 minutes worth of actual decent content, the rest is just filler.
Progression is slow, I just hope it's not dragged out over 5+ seasons, I feel obliged to see it through due to starting it and it initially being good., at least for season 1 anyway.
Last Seen Alive (2022)
B Movie Vibes From The Start
Seems a lot of actors lately are going down the B movie route, the likes of Cage and Willis comes to mind, Butler is the next in line.
From the start you can see just from the filming it's not going to be some high rated grossing title, with a lot of names in the cast nobody will batt an eye at, if Butler wasn't in this would anyone have watched it? My opinion is probably not.
The story is simple, the acting and script aren't great, it's watchable but I found myself waiting for it to end.
I got sucked in by Butler so had to see it through, it's not a particularly bad movie but not great either, he pretty much carries the whole movie and that was a tough one for me, I'm sure he won't look back at this with great fondness.
Overall watchable but if you can watch something else then do, you're not missing much.
Oxygène (2021)
At last a good one from netflix
Having watched quite a few "B Movies" from Netflix none of them are particularly good, this however was surprisingly good from start to finish.
A lot of people may not watch it as the audio is French, but subtitles are available, personally watching this in another language other than English I feel added to the movie.
Acting was good, the story was good, not original as we've kind of seen this done before, just not in this scenario.
Plenty of twists and things to keep you guessing on what's going to happen next, I felt like I was always guessing on what was going to happen or who people where. Enough to keep you watching and wanting more.
I've seen a few of the movies Alexandre Aja has directed in the past, all of them were pretty good this is no exception.
Worth a watch.
Jurassic World Dominion (2022)
Let it die like the dinosaurs
I watched fallen kingdom before this just to refresh my memory, that was a snoozefest, this is even worse.
Honestly so poor it's unbelievable that they allowed it to go in the direction it did, making promises to dinosaurs., please.
I lasted maybe a hour and a half before I was questioning everything happening, bringing back old characters to try and get old audience onboard was just a fat no for me, they offered nothing to a poor written story, with so many holes in it you wonder if a dinosaur has taken a bite out of it.
It's the same storyline as ever, someone promises to do good with the dinosaurs but doesn't, someone's kidnapped or taken hostage, which leads to a boring long winded film that I personally couldn't wait for it to end.
The dinosaurs themselves also looked really poorly done at times, which made it even worse.
These 3 films as a trilogy have been a insult to the originals.
Resident Evil (2022)
Another Coulda Woulda Shoulda
Honestly don't get why they've gone down the route they have, what was wrong with sticking to the actual story we know and love, instead it's gone a completely different route.
The whole show just doesn't fit the feel of Resident Evil as we know it, running Zombies, evolved Zombies for example just again isn't really what we know, there's plenty of other things that just don't line up or sit right with many people including myself.
The first episode they try and create a big action scene and it just feels poor and lacking any real fear or that you actually care about the character in the situation.
We've seen similar done with the movies in the past while keeping names and references in it, but again changing the plot for some reason or another.
Personally I wanted the games to be made into the show, either going in story order or release order.
The story is pretty slow too, I'm 3 episodes in and not much has happened, it feels like another Walking Dead series but they've labelled it Resident Evil and included Raccoon City and Umbrella into the mix.
Explaining parts of the back story is a given maybe for new audience, but they haven't even really done that particularly well either, if you've never seen or played Resident Evil before, would you know what Umbrella are, or what happened in Raccoon City?
Hoping it gets better, but the damage already feels like it's done and reviews have pretty much bombed, doubt it'll be renewed for a second series.
Another show that could of and should have been great but is likely to be buried.
Uncharted (2022)
Meh, just ok
Got about half way through this and just lost interest, I did finish it some days later but more just to say I've seen it. Having played the game this is based on, the film just doesn't have the same appeal.
The characters just don't have the same feel and the story just doesn't feel the same.
I don't think Tom Holland is a strong enough actor or the right choice to play drake, and again Mark Wahlberg doesn't play a good sully.
Disappointing.
Ghostbusters: Afterlife (2021)
Surprisingly Good
After the last Ghostbusters "reboot" I didn't have much hope for this, but I seen some of the people involved and gave it a shot and I'm glad I did.
Comparing this to the last reboot shouldn't happen, these are worlds apart, while this wasn't amazing it was somewhat similar to the originals, didn't have the nostalgia but the story held up.
Some references to the originals and cast too, pretty simple story, easy to follow but still enough to keep you entertained.
Seeing the original cast comeback was just great too, even if they did only play minor roles this time.
This was a fitting tribute IMO to the originals, something that you might actually say resembles the originals.
Would watch it again and the next one if that ever happens.
If only this had been done years earlier instead of that crock what tarnished the Ghostbusters franchise.
Also watch the credits if you haven't there's a 30+ second clip with Bill and Sigourney which is pretty good too.
How I Met Your Father (2022)
Trying to be something it's not
I'd honestly been dreading this, I'm a huge huge HIMYM fan, watched it about 5 6 times now.
This is just trying to be what that was and failing miserably at it, nothing remotely funny or anything to make you want to stick around and see how it pans out.
I honestly don't see this making it past the first season, even that feels like a mistake to me.
Doing a spin off of a show that was so successful and has a huge following like HIMYM is always going to be a mistake with such poor writing and a lack luster cast.
Even trying to use a set that was loved by many just feels cheap and trying to latch onto that audience as much as possible.
Poor.
The Matrix Resurrections (2021)
Another reboot that we didn't need
I get why people may have wanted this, given we didn't know the outcome of Neo from the final Matrix movie.
I feel this just still wasn't needed, we don't need a ending or closure for everything, even now, this movie has left it open again for another.
This wasn't anything spectacular at all, nothing new, nothing to make you say WOW, it just felt like another Matrix film like we've seen before but this time with Crew characters we don't really care about.
It all felt very easy to watch with no great difficulties for the characters, no surprises, no plot twists, maybe it's just me but having seen many movies since Revolutions this just offered me nothing new or exciting.
This to me has played on Nostalgia for the people who cared, if you've not seen the previous movies you may not understand completely about Neo and Trinity or how the world and The Matrix works, I felt the originals did a better job on that aspect, but this is just meant as a refresher really, to jog your memory and the characters memories to become who they're supposed to be.
Another reboot that is going to potentially ruin the previous trilogy.
Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City (2021)
Rushed, big let down for actual fans
Having played the games this is based on, it feels like such a tragedy that they've changed the story and bypassed/glanced over details from the games without no recognition to the original story, this film is based on Resident Evil 2, but they've actually tried to cram parts of Resident Evil 1 into this to create a mishmash of a film that leaves actual fans feeling sour.
There's just so much in this that was just completely cut out, this needed to be at least another 30 minutes to a hour longer to fit it in, some people may say it wasn't needed, but why halve the story and diminish the difficulties Leon and Claire actually go through in the game that the film is based on, all while leaving out vital details and crucial points and build ups.
I'm torn on whether it's as good or bad as the original Mila Jovavich Resident Evil, I like that it keeps the essence of the story, but not the fact that it's been partially changed and had a lot of details omitted.
Character development is also non existent really, Leon is portrayed as the idiot of the group which doesn't sit right with me at all. Wesker just again feels rushed, the games you get this feeling that he's not what he appears to be from the off, but in this it just feels he's playing a nice guy and suddenly turns bad, which is not how he's portrayed in the games.
Having all characters together on screen in one film again just isn't right, it wasn't needed, why not actually do the franchise properly instead of trying to cram in as much as possible but yet still missing out on character details, crucial moments and build up.
All in all, this was rushed, could have been something actually good,
Invasion (2021)
Just too slow and boring
I got half way through the second episode and just gave up, very little happening, after near 2 hours, bore fest.
Couldn't recommend it, feels like another show that's going to be dragged out over God knows how many seasons.
CSI: Vegas (2021)
Pilot episode
Have to admit I was looking forward to this, having watch all csi series over the years.
This just felt rushed and not thought out for a pilot episode, not the same as old csi.
For example the scene where they're examining the burnt body two women just walk in, when would that ever happen, how were they ever identifying a burnt body?
Ending was poor too, they're chasing a guy over a kidnap of a cop, the cop was taken off the strip in public with ease, all too easy,, the ending is even worse the guy who took the cop decides to hide under the crawl space of his house and is found obviously by someone hearing him.
I mean who thought these were good ideas?
My only hope is that grisim and Sarah rescue this.
No One Gets Out Alive (2021)
Meh, not bad but not that great either
I watched this a few days ago after having binged on other horror/thriller movies, this didn't really come across as anything great in the writeup.
Feels like just another run of the mill horror/thriller, nothing outstanding, but overall not that bad either, acting was pretty good, no real major stars but still convincing.
The main character you don't really feel anything for, no major back story.
The whole story all just feels too simple and easy for people to watch
If they release another, I'd probably watch it.
The 100 (2014)
Good concept with poor script and acting
Albeit I'm only 3 episodes in to the first season, but the amount of cheesy lines and or bad acting is just so off-putting, I can only imagine it will continue. Shame as the story has good premise.
A Quiet Place Part II (2020)
Disappointing for such a lengthy wait for a sequel
I'd been anticipating watching this for some time, after the first film this looked pretty good, with some unanswered questions and hopefully more drama/action.
I have to admit I was sorely disappointed, the whole film felt rushed, lack of any meaningful story, all things seem to just happen too easily, supposed end of the world scenario but items or transport needed is readily available for example (without spoilers).
Backstory was pretty meaningless, switching from day 1 to day 400 odd seems just pointless, plenty of days in between to fill the lack of story, but just brushed over really.
Acting was good, but given the whole film has about 100-200 words spoken the whole film, I'd imagine it becomes easier.
Some decent jump scares in a few places, but given the whole film is so quiet that's bound to happen.
Could have been so much more, no doubt a third instalment is on the way too, but I think I won't be anticipating that one so much.
I'd only say to watch this if your curious after seeing the first film, but don't go out of your way to see it.
A 3 year wait for this seems a lot, given there is no real "action" or anything that could really justify 3 years.
All in all it just feels like a rehash of the first film, basically leaving us in the same position as last time, with nothing particularly new added.
Stowaway (2021)
Started good but just slowly drifted into unbelievable nothingness
The premise of the film sounded good, but as the story progresses it just becomes more far fetched than the last part. There seems to be many plot holes in this too, along with situations or events that are just left and not explained.
Having seen the people who starred in this, I had somewhat high hopes, but while watching I thought to myself when does Anna Kendrick do anything other than Rom coms or feel good movies or chick flicks, role didn't suit her at all.
No real character back stories or any meaningful interaction for you to care what happens to them, all just too unbelievable and far fetched.
I honestly couldn't wait for this to finish, could have been really good but just wasn't.
Upgrade (2018)
Wasn't expecting much, but exceeded greatly
Given it seemed like a low budget movie with no real big names involved, like many others it always leaves me sceptical before watching anything. This however was really good, some great ideas executed well, good story and easy to understand. Surprising some of the ideas and tech on display. Having watched series 1 of altered carbon and some other movies with similar themes, I still thought this was good and kept my interest right till the end. Easily a recommended watch.
