Entertaining, but for the genre lovers only
5 August 2010
Okay, so, it's better than your standard zombie fair, I mean, running zombies, that can drive, shoot and stab people, how awesome's that! Even though they look like hopefuls for a Toxic Avenger contest, there's some that look fairly human still and genuinely quite manic. Also, they are super human, so, bullets don't hurt them, only in the head, MMM, original, but still, they beat the infected for me from 28 Day's Later. Their smart, can drive cars, pilot planes.

Acting is a shoddy as it always is in these films, typical European boobs for no reason style, weird mix of mimed deaths and full on gore shots, that makes it out of place in some parts that some people have been smashed over the head and fall to the ground or sliced open, then others are spraying blood from their throats or loosing limbs.

Ah well, who can really complain, a fun film, but one for a genre fan's, keep it a guilty pleasure

Rawhead Rex (1986)
7/10
A great low budget monster film with irish people, explosions and good gore...
19 July 2010
Warning: Spoilers
This film isn't a big budget, CGI ladened, epileptic fit inducing block buster, but it's still fun. There are some good moments like the monsters raid on a caravan camp and the stand off between Rawhead, his human follower and the Riot police. The film starts in the Irish countryside with a strange boulder being found out in the fields. A farmer then disrupts the ground with his plow, it gets struck by that awful lightning thats 2D pasted onto the screen. Anywho, surprise surprise, it's the tomb for the title monster, who then rips the farmers face off, good introduction, Rawheads skills as a people person is shown further by having him kill another farmer, then, in a random scene, spare his wife for she's pregnant, or something. All through this, a strange alter glows red and disrupts morning mass. Then, a camera man realises more about Rawhead, who then kills his son. It's not done on screen, but, it's still quite disturbing, better than if it was done on show. He then, goes on a personal vendetta against the monster. After, Rawhead destroys a caravan park. This is where the best parts lie. People are thrown around, ripped apart, explosions happen cause someone falls and shoots a gas line. It's great, cheesy, and a gruesome. After, this policeman gets possessed by Rawhead, he leaves his partner to death in the car and goes to the church where the police have blocked off because, Rawheads in there, and his crazy priest friend. So, crazy cop blows up the police and burns to death, the vicars ripped up, the alter turns out to be hiding their statue that will kill Rawhead, then 80's special effects kick in, Rawheads dead, kinda... There's, many more points of interest, but, I don't want to ruin the whole film for you, watch it for yourself, it's a good cheesy movie, just, don't treat it seriously and it'll be a good time.

Also, you do not want to screw with Rawhead, he is a beefy thing that'll screw you up!

Unearthed (2007)

Okay film
13 September 2008
Well, it's not a Hollywood blockbuster, so, really, think that when you see this film. It's just a dumb creature feature and thats all it's gonna be. The acting is gonna be hammy, the effects are gonna be rubbish,it's gonna be pants, but I watched it all the way through, and found it entertaining. It's music was fairly effective, electronic music aways seems to affect me more then big orchestra's and rocky tracks, it reminded me of the old 70's Grindhouse films. Gore wise, it's good, very nasty deaths, and some I found quite funny too.

Overall, an okay film, not Oscar worthy, so don't treat it like it is, I enjoyed it more taking it as a low budget creature feature.

why Michael why
11 August 2008
How they got Michael gross I will never know This film is just a car crash, really it is, it feels like one, looks like one, sound likes it.

I watched this, on my own, expecting, a T-Rex, ripping it's way through LA, tearing people in two, not people and cars going by normally as a giant 20ft T-Rex is wandering aimlessly through the streets with random crew members running around in the background and men with big nets chasing them.

And the T-Rex, well, it looks like a CGI iguana mixed with a chicken, that has eaten A lot of sugar, seriously, it jumps like 30ft into the air and eats a helicopter.

But, all these awesome scenes are done in crappy CGI.

Seriously, Michael, loved you in Tremors, why degrade yourself to this horse crap of a film.

I am now begging the guys at the Asylum pictures, please stop making movies.

Area 51 (2005 Video Game)
8/10
One of my favourite games on the PS2
12 July 2008
I have just played Blacksite: Area 51 and it got in the swing of alien blasting games. After an hour of scrabbling through my room, i found it, Area 51. I started from the beginning, and after that, I could not stop.

The plot I thought was very deep, and the secrets that you uncover are something that should be kept hidden from the public.

The plot revolves around a Hassmat team sent in to clean up after an alien virus is set loose in the base. It may not be much, but the story contains every conspiracy theory in the book, the moon landing, aliens, government corruption. It does this well and makes you think if this could all be true, it is very well played out.

The game play is good, the controls are easy and the weapons, even though are fairly standard, are put to good use in this game. The alien weapons are very good, and are extremely useful against the aliens The graphics are a very good standard considering this was brought out a while ago, the blood and goo go flying every where and some of the stuff you see is very unnerving.

The sound is very well used, the mutants screech and the voice acting is very good, Marilyn Manson is beautifully cast as the big grey and adds that extra creepiness to the game.

The inside of Area 51 is very well created and is like the game names it a 'Dreamland' A very good game that I love replaying and gives the idea of a good old fashion FPS with loads of goo and guts.

The reason I gave it an 8 is because it still feels like your typical FPS that you've played a hundred times, it's the way that it is presented and unfolds that makes it fun and interesting and gives it more of and edge in the FPS market.

Cloverfield (2008)
10/10
It'll take some time for another monster movie like Cloverfield to come
21 June 2008
Warning: Spoilers
I saw this after most people had, so my expectations we're high. After watching it, I had realised I never had so fun much fun watching a monster movie. I used to love Godzilla movies but after a while, the fun just was sucked away as I grew up.

Then, I went to see this. It was so adult and so personal, it packs a heavy emotional punch. It had me thinking what I would do in a situation like that, how I would react with my friends dieing around me while being stalked by a creature in one of the largest cities in the world.

The beginning makes you show compassion towards the characters, it shows their personal lives and drama's we've all faced at one point in our life, then, it all gets turned upside down. The hand-held camera doesn't catch everything so it's like your watching from a first person perspective so you see what the characters are seeing from there perspective like when the army roll down the streets and Hud the cameraman ducks behind the cars as you hear the monster roaring, it adds that fear and terror as you feel like you hiding with him.

Then there is the monster. The monster is the most important part of a monster film, of course, and the production team have really made a monster to be scared of. Also, the idea of it shedding off little parasite creatures adds to the fear and terror and confusion that the characters on screen feel.

A must see, but is best viewed in a cinema if you caught it or with a home cinema system for the effect.

A brilliant masterpiece of monster film making without the tacky cheesiness of a B-movie.

I Survived

Dear God this movie was awful

I watched this film all the way through and i have regretted it from then on.

The acting was horrible. The guns were fire work machines and the 'aliens' look like the real aliens retarded brother. The hunter looked like a bloke they pulled from the local bar and make wear a tin man suit with a giant metal pot on his head.

If your stupid enough like me to watch it all the way through, don't. You will feel cheated, used and dirty.

Avoid
