"The Batman" attempts to go to the roots and do something that the original comic set out to do in the era of comics. That is, putting a superhero in a detective's boots err super boots.
This movie set out to do the impossible, to portray a vigilante detective superhero while convincing us to take it seriously, and we did.
While the Nolan films (especially the dark knight) felt like an epic poem describing the battle of the gods, this film envisioned a different world.
One where batman was more of a flawed human in a flawed culture with a flawed past. He is a scarred human with a scarred body with more than enough motivation to become a villain himself. Yet, he is still able to find meaning in life.
It was an amazing movie. The story the characters, the action scenes.
I do have some quips about certain scenes where the discrepancy between a 'super hero' and a 'vigilante detective' cause problems. E.g. Batman not being able to outrun the car in the chase scene. But, I don't want to split hairs here.
Just like the comics, once you stop noticing that a guy wearing a 'battle suit' is talking to more human looking characters, you'll be able to really enjoy this movie.
