Wild West (2002–2004)

The first season was fantastic!

I adored this show for the most part. The first season was offbeat, quirky and unique. Catherine Tate and Dawn French are both brilliant as always, and the writing was excellent, managing to create a thoroughly enjoyable black comedy. The second series, however, left something to be desired in my opinion. The writing seemed uneven and flat, and where the first series made you care about the characters, the second leaves you feeling rather unsympathetic. There also seemed to be forced "tender moments" that don't really resonate. However, even the second series is worth watching, and there are definitely some good moments to remember.

The Happening (2008)
1/10
I want that two hours of my life back.
3 July 2008
I'm not a big M. Night Shyamalan fan. I loved the Sixth Sense, and I was in the minority of people who enjoyed Unbreakable. In my opinion his work has been totally downhill since then, and I swore I'd never see another film of his after Signs. Unfortunately my friend dragged me to see The Happening despite my protestations.

The theory was that this couldn't POSSIBLY be any worse than Signs. We were so wrong. While I enjoy the actors in the cast generally, particularly John Leguizamo and Zooey Deschanel, I found all the characters to be extremely irritating, and wholly unsympathetic. When you do happen to run into a character whom you feel is interesting, he or she is immediately knocked off, leaving you to roam aimlessly with Marky Mark along the countryside from one pointless sub-plot to the other.

If you're thinking about paying the $10.00 to see this movie, at least take this advice. Watch the looks on people's faces as they exit the theater. After the movie was done, I yelled, "What a load of horse s***!" only to be met by a rousing applause from at least 3/4 of the audience. My friends and I stayed until the end of the credits just to make nasty comments about the movie with the group of people in front of us. Hey, at least we made some new friends.
