Hollywood directors: plz follow
4 September 2008
Dot.com is a very good movie, therefore the 10 most people would ask why... since there are no super powers, no explosions or even explicit sex... which is the trademark of Hollywood...

my reasons for such an opinion follow: 1- the story is actually possible. plausible. there is not one single moment of the movie where you think «wtf this is bs!!». Remember we are talking about Europe. Portugal has more than 850 years of existence and a lot of our continents languages come from Latin, so its not a coincidence, but merely something bound to happen at some time, as said by the law of large numbers: too many villages, too many corporations. Plus, the fact that it all happens in 9 days.

2- the acting is very credible: for those of you that do not know the interior of Portugal, it might seem far-fetched, but actually it is very well portrayed. the mob mentality, the little villages gossiping, the reasons behind the ridiculous beyond all reason. All part o fa small town in an under developed area of a very old country.

3- you just don't expect what happens. that obviously comes from the mob mentality that changes like the wind. first tech equals bad, then its national pride at its best, then its money talks, and its all spiced up by good research by good consultants that know about the business world. the end is not only possible, but clever. we are in the age of leasing after all he-he.

a great example of what a small movie production company can do with a low budget, provided they work on a topic they know about.

Hollywood directors, less explosions, less Rambo's, less flaws in plausible deniability: give us stuff that is interesting, unusual, but not unreal. remember that most of the worlds battles were resolved without a single shot fired or a single drop of blood shed. thats why we invented the law. its worth exploring.
