Getting better and better

Horrible pilot... But give it a chance the actors settle in, the chemistry grows and you stop noticing the cheap laugh track... 😉

I wish it was a TV series
2 October 2020
I thought this was brilliant, never once did they allow her to be a damsel in distress, and I find myself totally engaged with the world. The idea and format would have leant itself to a TV series much better though.

Unafraid to shine a light on reality
16 August 2018
This show is shocking, saddening, hilarious and everything they say it is, but for all the right reasons. It's not shy to point out how fat people are shamed and ignored, how sex and sexuality are not simple binaries, and mental illness is so often covered up until it is too late. All wrapped in a telenovela style that means you have no idea where it is going to go. Ignore the critics, as usual they got it wrong!

The Mysteries of Laura (2014–2016)
10/10
I love this show
22 June 2015
I admit I watched because I was happy to see "Grace" had another job... But even though the pilot had moments of dodgy, by no means was that Debra Messing's fault, in fact by the end she was "Laura" in my mind and I was coming back for more. To my delight the show improves with every episode until at the end if the season I had to write this. Give it a chance. :-) All of the characters grow on you and there are some real moments of hilarity, the mysteries keep you guessing and yes it's not the newest formula, but that's OK its comfortable and lovely that you can trust they aren't gonna kill off your favorite characters suddenly Love it :-)

The Cybermen are NOT a Borg Ripp off
22 December 2013
It is so funny to see someone claim the Cybermen are a Borg rip off! If anything it was the other way around, in fact (being a fan of both shows) I remember stating when next gen was on "Oh look it's the Cybermen"! The upgrade to the Cybermen was brilliant and works perfectly with their character, I for one would now like to see them take on the Pepper Pot Daleks again and whoop their eye Stalks! Loved the Episode, and the style, come on everyone, DR Who is cutting edge, fast paced and requires some investment of attention, unlike almost every other show I watch where I spend most of the time playing on my phone as well. I agree it has gotten quite Dark, but that's the show, constantly changing, let's see what the new DR brings:)

Torchwood (2006–2011)

Forgive it for changing, its worth it!
20 August 2011
OK Torchwood is great, it's a show that explores so many depths of the human condition from so many angles, Sci Fi is a component for sure but get past that and this show will leave you thinking. But what I really mean is forgive it for changing when it moves from BBC to Starz. Let's face it the BBC was too gutless to keep this show running on their own so new investors were found and they required some change. At first it's a little gut retching and confusing, but the more episodes of season four you watch the more it hooks you, leaves you clueless and wondering, leaves you excited and wondering where it is going. There are several occasions when I found myself literally yelling at the TV, "No this can't happen!", "OMG its..." (Trying not to write spoilers). Treat it like a new show that features people you have loved before and you will soon be loving it again. Try it! Watch it! You will love it I promise. :)

Surprisingly awesome!
29 July 2010
Being from New Zealand I have relatively low expectations for New Zealand TV, but both my partner and i were pleasantly surprised after the first episode and are excitedly waiting for more. The show has a slightly scifi side being set in the near future, however don't judge it for that, the acting is wonderful and the production values high. Just when you think you have it worked out the show throws a twist that leaves you confused but in a good way. I'm proud to say that NZ TV really has stepped up its game and if this continues down the same road Im sure this show could compete with the best of TV coming out of the states. GO TVNZ;)

Outside the box, demanding and intriguing, Laugh out loud stuff
9 September 2009
Have to completely disagree with the last reviewer, and question what makes them so down on this show, I have now introduced 15 friends to the show, and everyone of them has become an addict. The premise is different, the questions it brings up make you think, its not your typical 'doctors n nurses/murder investigation/ in side the box' show, so I could understand why it might offend someones sensibility. Tony Collette is an amazing actress, and her supporting cast shine just enough to steal the show here and there, the biggest disappointment I have with this show was the short season, and having to wait so long for the next one. Total addict here, I totally recommend the show, but not if your fairly right wing or not prepared to be challenged by a new subject matter. LOVE IT! :)

Doctor Who: Journey's End (2008)
Season 4, Episode 13

Wow! are some people never happy or what?
12 July 2008
Warning: Spoilers
I loved this episode, quite simply thats it. It was SO great to see a series that has launched two spin offs to use the strength of those spin offs to draw them back together and widen their scope. I hark back to when the first doctor left, and how much I didn't like David Tennant, now I cant see anyone better, then how upset I was when Rose left, and how I fell in love with Martha and then Donna and I realize that Dr who is all about change, this is why the show made it to 30 years originally, and why if used well it will do something similar this time. Dr Donna was fabulous, though people below have complained, it made sense of why the Doctor always compliments humans, why he can even be bothered with us. As for confusion? my gosh if your children where really confused, then they need and IQ test and a little more time in school!! I worry for them truly! Yes it was a bit sad that there was not more time for the other characters, but hey the reality is that the show just doesn't have time or space to support that many key players. I have recently introduced a friend to Dr who and am watching back all the old episodes, and they are that much more wondrous now as you see the small threads that where brought together to this climax. I was sad to see Donna go and of course Rose, but then again, your never gone in Dr who! right? As fort he few gimme here and there, it was obvious David Tennat would not regenerate, it was just a great story ploy to leave everyone gasping and tuning in! Well done! Tosh learned how to manipulate time just b4 time, thats a bit hard to swallow, but hey already too many torch wood people dead, it was always gonna be a gimme. I love that we are not absolutely sure what happened to Harriet Jones, a fabulous character. And of course I love it that the Cyber men a coming back, please God let them be the real ones from our universe not the limp wrist ed other universe ones who could not stand up to the Daleks! loll any way, thank you SO much for writing outside the box and letting Ur spin off characters interact with each other, I hope we see it again! loved it!
