I, like many of us, had reasonable expectations for this show. Sadly, even those modest hopes were too high. This series, while from a fine pedigre, doesn't get funny, or all that interesting really. The jokes are expected and dated. The plot is unoriginal and rife with appropriations from other shows' plotlines. The jokes that are made are not strong enough to compensate for the bland characters. If it was funny the plot could be soft. If it was powerful in story, it wouldn't need to be funny. It's neither.
Many are quick to come to this show's defense saying "give it time." This is proof that even the staunch supporters admint it could have been better.
We the fans shouldn't have to be patient with a show in hopes that it will improve after a lackluster start. Many recent shows have started off excellent their first season. Just look at the ratings for this big anaimated series. If the first season was this weak, I could only expect it to get worse. I hope it gets better, but I don't see how with its current course.
On a side note, this is yet another recent example of Netflix rushing to market with more and more mediocre content.
