Pathfinder (2007)
A different kind of action movie
I have to say this movie was okay in the sense that it WAS different from other action movies.
I find things about Vikings really interesting. During the movie you get the idea that these Vikings were almost monsterish and inhuman by the way they act. I liked the way they were portrayed. This movie reminds me a bit of the classic "Beastmaster" in a way, or at least the main character does. It's a little slow to get started in the action, but works up to an average entertaining plot.
This movie follows in the path of movies like the recently re-made 10,000 B.C. Pathfinder came out at the same time 10,000 B.C. did, and undoubtedly, lost the battle at the theaters. I picked up Pathfinder for $10 at Wal Mart and I personally enjoyed it. It has a bit of a romantic plot to it at as well, and that always meaningful "life lesson" to be learned in the movie. It's kind of long and as I said, can be quite boring until the last hour of the movie. For $10, I think it's worth the watch but overall I have to give it a 5/10.
Storm Warning (2007)
Didn't like it... Deceiving
I bought this one off the $7.50 rack at Wal Mart. I gotta admit I am not a big fan of Australian movies. I think this movie was different because you explore a weird side of Australia that you really never think of. When you think of Australia, or New Zealand, you typically think of sunny beaches, kangaroos, and the outback. (or at least I do). You don't think of backwoods psychotic rednecks hacking people up on an island. I think that is what really drew me to this movie.
The movie started out as it says, and progressed onward. I liked the idea of the mystery of "Poppy", who you really don't see till later on in the movie. After seeing him though, the thought of him actually being scary and psychotic passed my mind. On the back of the box the movie states that the couple were sex slaves, in which they actually were NOT (not that I bought the movie for that.) I did like the plot of the movie, but don't feel the potential of the plot was properly taken advantage of. It reminded me of a worse version of "Wolf Creek", which was terrible in itself. It was a weak movie that didn't produce. I gotta admit, the scene with the fishing line was pretty nice, and the scene with the fan boat at the end. Other than that, I gotta give this one a 5/10.
Hack! (2007)
Funny movie with gore, but not too scary.
This movie delivers a decent amount of gore, but will not scare you. It's more of a comical horror movie than anything else. Sometimes in horror movies I like to make fun of certain parts of the movie that look cheesy and corny. This movie simply does it for you. Several references to classic horror movies and spoof about these movies. Pay attention and catch ALL of the references they make to the horror industry. It's a fun movie to watch if you don't mind a little blood and gore. Gabrielle Richens gets topless in three different scenes, who is just stunningly hot. Danica McKellar (Winnie from The Wonder Years) is also quite attractive as a "book worm" role and her other role as well in the movie. Definitely recommend it if you like comedy horror movies.
Sublime (2007)
Weird movie.... in a good way
I'm gonna have to give this one a 9 out of 10. The characters in the hospital were great. They're the kind of characters that you can tell there is something not right about their behavior, but you just can't put your finger on it. Nor does the movie give you a lot of details as to what is going on. You're left to kind of think it through, and it's good to pay attention so you pick up on all the details. Filled with some awesome plot twists, storyline, and string of characters. I really enjoyed this movie and the ending of it was not something I seen coming. This movie is mysterious, intriguing, and all out awesome! It's not going to be the movie for you if you're a horror nut looking for a movie that is going to deliver tons of blood, gore, and scare factor. It does deliver a bit of gore though, however the best part of the movie is how well it is written out to keep you guessing all the way up until the end.
