Top Gear: Episode #30.4 (2021)
Worser and worser
Paddy. The accent. I can't handle it. Why is this fellow even on the show? The cricketer fellow is ok, but not great. Harris has a relatable personality and he knows his game, which means that this show should just have him. This episode is just a collection of stupid cuts that are painful to watch. Why am I still watching this show? Because there are a few gem-like moments, always by Harris. This is not good people. Not good at all.
Top Gear: Episode #30.2 (2021)
Noise, noise, noise
What is this now? The only person on this show that has any knowledge of cars is Chris Harris. The other guy is funny because he's tall and can't fit in most cars. And the guy called Paddy - all he does, and I mean all, is scream. I wondered for a while if that was just the timbre of his voice, but no. I've realised he can tone it down, but he chooses not to. And then, the accent. I thought this was an English show? I was a part of the studio audience years ago, when the show was novel and informative. Now, it's a waste of time. This episode seals it.
Top Gear: Episode #29.5 (2020)
What is this supposed to be?
It's difficult to say what the series finale was supposed to be. This concept of "building" some kind of "re-thunk" vehicle to prove some kind of point is dull and used up. And that's ok, if there was some kind of edge to it. But there isn't. Combat zones, racing in a theme park... seen it done better.
Never mind all of this though. Chris Harris is the only one of the three with any kind of watchable personality. I suspect it's because he's genuinely passionate about cars and knows what he's talking about.
The "comedy" from these three is a result of rubbish chemistry. Only because the cricket guy has no visible personality and the other guy, well, I just can't understand what he says. Some of the words are English, but his sentence construction seems absent because I don't understand some of the words he says. So I'm having to fill in the blanks.
And even just having this episode on in the background doesn't work, because when I can't understand the Irish guy, all I hear is screaming and shouting.
Serving Sara (2002)
Different
This is a refreshing change for Matthew Perry fans who are used to seeing him play "Chandler" in all his movies.
Not this time. Oh, he is sarcastic, but in a more manly sort of way. Not whimpering and cowering like he usually does in all his other movies.
The movie itself started off fairly well, to be perfectly fair. But unfortunately, it fizzled out a bit too much from about half way through...
If it maintained what it started with, then 6.5/10. They way it is: 5/10.
Star Trek: Nemesis (2002)
What's the big deal?
I have read mountains of reviews from people concerning ST Nemesis - they either love it or hate it. I am a huge fan of Star Trek, more so TNG. My wife, on the other hand, positively hates ST purely because whenever it's on SKY or any other channel, I hog the remote. As a gift to me 'though, she sacrificed herself to go with me to the cinema to watch it on opening night.
As a Trekkie, I am true to the ST Universe, and as such found holes in the ST consistency and the plot itself. I therefore had reservations about it being a "Star Trek" movie, but still enjoyed it for what else it is - a good action/adventure/sci-fi flick. It's mindless entertainment for a hangover day. My wife however, thoroughly enjoyed it for being exactly that! Pure entertainment, without getting too deep into ST philisophy and technical jargon. The CGI was excellent, good cast, terrific action and a plot (albeit swiss cheese-like) that can be followed by someone who has never watched an episode or movie of ST ever before.
I have great disdain for Berman and his "way", but the amount of money that is pumped into such a movie needs to appeal to everyone, not just the fans. That's probably what they tried to do. That plan did work, I must agree, but it should be noted that the movie will lose the ST franchise a lot of support. Let's see what the box office takings say ultimately.
All in all, good entertainment, but I wouldn't give up a Friday night's worth of drinking for it. Rather watch it on Saturday morning. 3/4.
