Boy,this was a letdown!!!!
20 July 2004
I went into this movie expecting it to be pretty good. Well;sadly to say I was terribly disappointed when I had completed this film. The story itself was fair, but, I just couldn't get past the INaccurate depiction of "The South" to enjoy anything about this flick. I post very few comments here at IMDB regarding movies. I usually just vote and go on. But, I was so upset at the content of this film that I had to post. I am so tired of all Southern Americans being depicted on film as "Rednecks". We are not all rednecks....and in my 36 years of living in the south(my entire life)...I have never come across a town....anything like the one in the movie!!!! Let's break it down.....I live in a small north Georgia town of less than 1,600 residents....and have yet to meet any southerner named "Lurlyn"...I have been to bars...but, not one had Christmas lights strung along the outside(And I have been to some pretty rough bars in my time). The "Mullet" haircut is about as UNcommon in the South in the 21st century as it is anywhere else in the U.S. Also;I have never eaten(Or for that matter even seen) a "Chitlin"!!!! Most mobile homes I have visited have been....almost as nice as a small house and not the rundown SINGLE WIDE they depict on this pic. as a double wide. Alot of the accents were wrong. There have only been two accurate depictions in my opinion of small town life on TV or film in my opinion.....and they were the motion picture "Slingblade"(directed by Billy Bob Thornton...who is from Arkansas)...and the Andy Griffith Show on Television(Once again actual southerners). Other than these we are depicted down here as nothing more than "Hillbillies". I admit we are much different than the North.....But, give me a break!!!!!!!! It is nothing like this.....I,therefore...because of the regional inaccuracies give this piece of work a 2 out of 10!!!!!!!

So dissapointing!!!!!
20 March 2004
Warning: Spoilers
***SPOILERS*** ***SPOILERS*** First off; let me begin by saying that I have NOT seen the original 1978 version of this movie. So therefore when myself and a friend decided on the spur of the moment to go see this flick...it was with only the basic knowledge that it was a "zombie movie"....where folks are in a mall. After sitting through this movie....I felt as if it had been an almost entire waste of time!!!!! I will break down the reasons why I believed so.

1. I absolutely despise movies where s*** just starts happening and there is never any definitive answer as to why they have begun....at least on the original Night Of The Living Dead....they gave some vague reasoning as to what started the dead to rising!!! This movie is normal...and then suddenly total chaos!!!!

2.Absolutely no background information on any of the characters to amount to much except for the Rhames character....com'on...how are we supposed to feel for these people that were just thrown at us????

3.The pregnant chick thing....was just stupid!!!! 4 minutes into the movie...myself and everyone....in the theatre...knew she was gonna be birthing....the spawn of the dead...and then that baby looked like a combination of the babies from...."Its Alive" and "Basket Case"(Yes I know the latter wasn't actually a baby). It was so totally ridiculous!!!!!

4.The dude that stayed on the dock at the end as the boat sailed away....was the most obnoxious....piece of crap I've ever seen....and his character.....was a waste!!!!

5.There was just so much more they could have done with this movie....it was if the producers had borrowed the mall...and had to finish as quickly as possible with their shooting schedule..hehehe.

6.The scenes where everyone suddenly got jolly...and started having a good time and kidding around for a few frames made no sense!!!!!

7.Why were they in such a hurry to get out of the mall?....this was obviously one of the few places on earth that they could reamin relatively safe....hell;watch a video...or something....hehehe.

8.And last...(but, definately not least)....I have absolutely had it with the the "Blair Witch Style" endings...give it a break guys!!!! That s*** was 5 years ago(Blair Witch)....it worked then.....and it is very old now!!!! First the remake of Texas Chainsaw Massacre did it...and now this crap!!!! The final scene should have just ended with the boat sailing off to nowhere...and not with "Island cannibals" devouring....everyone...during the credits....This scene was seen by less than 50% of the people at the theatre I was at...because once they saw the credits rolling...the movie sucked so badly...they were up....and out of there...before they even realized there were "more scenes"!!!!!!

7. And another thing...that stupidchick that went and got the dog...would have just been one stupid dead girl!!!! I like animals as much as the next guy....but, to people that put them(animals) on the same level as human beings....then ...die with them...she knew the dog would be fine(The Zombies showed no interest...in the dog...when it ran across the mall parking lot).

The movie had a few redeeming qualities...and they were.

1.Ving Rhames turned in a powerful performance(as he does in everything he is in)...He is the most talented African-American actor currently on Hollywood payroll. His character...was very impressive...and they even gave us some hindsight as to who his character may have been.

2.One very awesome soundtrack!!!! I have got to have that opening....song(Sung during the TV mayhem....right before and during the opening credits of the movie)....it sounded like Johnny Cash...if anyone knows what this song is...please let me know.

3.The scene where they were having the dude across the way....shoot celebrity look-a-likes in the mall parking lot...was absolutely hilarious!!!! Loved it....

4.The CJ character(head of security)...became very interesting once he began working in support of the group.

Also; noticed the co-pilot from Jason X's spaceship...on the movie...he is cool.

But, all in all these few things weren't enough to save this less than mediocre...movie....I give it a 3 out of a possible 10 points.

I now plan to go out...and rent the original....and see the differences....my girlfriind says she saw the original when it came out in 1978 and that it was very good....we'll see.

Radio (2003)

This movie was awesome!!!!
6 February 2004
I don't tend to put comments on IMDB about too many titles. I have ranked over 700 titles;however in my files...and Radio is one of only 4 of those that I have given a 10. Cuba Gooding should win best actor for this flick. It was amazing. He does such a good job portraying "Radio" Kennedy that you forget that it is Gooding in the role. Overall this was one of the 4 best movies I have ever seen!!!! Gooding's role as a mentally challenged individual is head and shoulders above Sean Penn's portrayal in the movie "I am Sam". Penn was painful to watch in the aforementioned role...but, Gooding Jr. truly captured something special in this role. This movie shouldn't be missed by anyone.

This was great!!!!!
7 July 2003
I have been a Wrestling fan for years...but, have recently stopped watching. This was due in part to the fact that I like the "Old School" Wrestling style of the 1970's...and didn't really like the new crap they had been throwing at us since the mid-90's. I was a Wrestling Manager in several "Outlaw" shows in the mid-90's...so I knew some of the inside...tricks and such. But, this movie was so insightful. It was wonderful all around. The Terry Funk segment is great and The Jake Roberts section....will make you cry...and the Mick Foley segment will make you ask "why" over and over again. The flick was so great that I watched it twice in a matter of just a couple of days. The only thing that made it a 9 instead of a 10...was the fact...that in my assessment...it ran about 30 minutes too long....and "drug" in spots....but, all in all...you've got to see it.

Oh well,I could've just flushed that $1.50...*minor Spoilers*
11 June 2003
Warning: Spoilers
I had been avoiding this movie for sometime...because I viewed it as an unneccesary installment to a series that should have only had 2 parts. But, after reading some fairly favorable reviews...from some IMDB watchers...I spent $1.50 and rented it at my local video store. Need I go further...when I say....this was a buck-50 lost. This movie is one of the 10 worst movies I have ever seen. First off....I realize that noone wanted to see a 33 year old Macchio in this film.....But, why could'nt they have had Miyagi read a letter or something from Daniel-san...maybe explaining what happened to Daniel...hell, they could have at least made a quick mention of daniel or something. But, no...and to compund the already bad script....they added those stupid monks...I thought monks take a vow of silence...guess these yapping monks don't take their vows seriously...hehehe. The training the girl went through in the movie was hurried and stupid...and the paramilitary group of young males....were a confusing concept to say the least....this was far from even being a martial arts movie...with the girl only fighting briefly in the final scene....and then she didn't even come close to getting hit even once...by the male fighting her....give me a break...she would have gotten hit at least once....I guess the writers and directors thought it would be to shocking to see a girl get punched by a male in this one. I could go on and on...but, basically...I'll end by saying that this movie was just so bad....even the girl they chose wasn't nice to even look at(she was sorta "butch" looking)....I can only think of a handful of movies that I have sit through...that compare to just how bad this flick was.....DON"T WASTE YOUR TIME ON THIS ONE..........

This movie was captivating
10 June 2003
I remember as a young adult when I first discovered this movie. It was on a local cable channel....late one night. I was flipping channels and came across it. Immediately I was taken aback by the content of the feature. I continued watching. It is a most amazing feature indeed....I have a problem myself with severe depression and have on several occassions....considered suicide myself. But, this movie so pinpoints what the loved ones left behind go through....the sorrow and misery they must suffer...that since anytime the thought crosses my mind...I think of this wonderful masterpiece of a movie and it helps me through those few moments of unclear thought. The odd thing about the movie...is it is like you are watching a televised play...rather than a regular movie....this is one of the things I liked most about it. Bancroft was wonderful in her role and Spacek did well enough as well. I give it 8 out of 10.....only because I felt it eventually became to "drawn out".....and should have concluded a bit before it did...But, all in all the movie...as a whole is quite a marvel to behold!!!!!

This movie was very good
30 May 2003
Some of the bad reviews that people have given this movie here at IMDB is certainly surprising. I have watched this flick numerous times and find it a delightful love story. Rebecca Demornay is great and I enjoy the movie everytime I view it. The ending was a little disappointing...But, all and all...I give this movie 8 out of 10 stars. Check it out.

This is very good flick...
23 October 2002
Powers Boothe turns in a stellar performance as 1970's cult figure Jim Jones of the Peoples Temple. Jones physical likeness to Jones is uncanny and the story is acted out chillingly. The movie keeps you riveted and is a must see for anyone. check it out.

This Movie was filmed in my hometown
11 October 2002
I guess what makes this flick so unique for me is the fact that it was filmed almost entirely on location in my hometown....of Trenton, Georgia...which is a smalltown(Population app. 1,500) in the Northwest Georgia Mountains....the backdrop wasn't changed at all...and now I can watch this film and see my hometown 22 years ago(even though it was released in 1981...it was filmed during the summer months of 1980)....The script is lacking indeed..I'll give you that...but, it does have my favorite actor of all time(Dennis Quaid) starring in it...I've often thought if they'd made the movie based strictly on the lyrics to the well known Vicki Lawrence song..it would have been much better....But, as it is...if you aren't from the Chattanooga,Tn./Trenton,Ga. area it would probably be a major dissapointment for you....But, if you like Dennis Quaid or Don Stroud you'll enjoy it...worth watching...Dennis Quaid surprised me...He really can sing!!!
