Mil Colmillos (2021)
Colombian Predator
It's not hard to spot the resemblance with the famous film with Arnold Schwarzenegger. Hope that the rest of the episodes detach from this similarity.
Already in the first episode they talk about crossing borders since the operation will take place in "foreign territory"...come on...if you're going to go to a neighboring country you mention it. Is it Ecuador, Venezuela, Brazil may be or Perú? Let's put some reality to the show and let's avoid cliches.
Young Wallander (2020)
Young Wallander or the art of getting your ass kicked
I will divide my opinion in pros and cons.
Pros: Good rhythm, good screenplay, decent acting.
Cons: English language is hard to believe in a swedish series. Main character sounds like Ragnar Lodbrok talking in Vikings.
I can buy the rookie having strikes of luck, being clever and all that, but I can't believe he had his ass kicked so many times, and at some point I'd say he enjoys that. Also it's unbelievable how such non violent and seemingly quiet policeman is so impulsive with his mouth. Probably all this is part of this modern noir story.
Star Trek: Picard (2020)
Let's give the Orville to Picard
We had already noticed that Star Trek creativity and spirit were fading away with Discovery. Now with Star Trek: Picard we are witnesses of the official demise of the series. Not everything is lost, though. Seth MacFarlane conveys more of the essence of Star Trek than Discovery and Picard combined.
Don't F**k with Cats: Hunting an Internet Killer (2019)
Amateur data mining leads to milennial wannabe serial killer
It's been a while since a documentary film keeps me in the edge of my seat. I watched the 3 episodes in a row. It was very well edited, emotional and with the right dose of visual content. It wasn't necessary to show the whole content of the videos. There are a couple of open questions that are being discussed in several forums and that I assume Netflix didn't want to explore on purpose. 1) how did Luka know where Deanna worked if she always interacted with her fake identity? or it wasn't him at all? 2) Whose are the extra hands that appear in one of the videos?.
The War of the Worlds (2019)
Another wasted chance
I saw episodes 1 and 2 in a row. First episode was decent, even though there was this romantic touch of the non-socially-approved couple and a touch of feminism. The flash forwards became something annoying. Second episode was a complete waste of time. Flashforwards took control of the plot and the background music unbearable. The didn't even care to cast a child with the same eye color as his parents...I can't believe there's a 3rd episode.
The Capture (2019)
A show with potential but...
I have to agree with previous opinions. Don't know if the rest of the episodes will be able to keep up with the rhythm of the first one. Neither do I know if the leading role actor was chosen on purpose to act so badly or if it was a casting process mistake. In any case this show deserves chance. Let's see where it goes.
The Umbrella Academy (2019)
To like the series you have to like the comic
I'll be brief. I assume that Netflix has more or less respected the original comic and if that's the case I don't like the comic either. That said I don't feel attracted by the development of the characters, and couldn't help feeling a certain twisted deja vu with the Haunting of Hill House in regards to the relationship between brothers and sisters. Time to move on to another series.
The Morgue (2008)
I've seen this before
This could have been a fine horror movie... of course if films like The Sixth Sense or The Others had not been released years before.
The ending can be easily anticipated if one has watched the above mentioned films (approximately by the middle of the film). The resource of using the ghost's point of view at the time of departure has become almost a cliché. Also the character named Horace does not fit very well in the story. The most terrifying scene is the one where a shadow of a microphone appears behind the actors in the front yard. I put a 4 instead of a 3 because the little girl character also dies in the film. I must confess they fooled me there.
