Sullivan & Son (2012–2014)

So far so good!
23 July 2012
Just watched the pilot and second episode and we really enjoyed them! We've always found Steve Brynes' standup funny and thought he did really well in a sitcom role as well. Steve's mother, played by Jodi Long, steals the show. She is flipping hilarious and had us cracking up the entire time she was on screen. As a child of the 80s, I was thrilled to see Dan Lauria as his dad (I always loved him as the dad in the Wonder Years!!). Christine Ebersole is fabulous as the slutty, drunk mom of one of Steve's friends. Rounding out the cast is his neurotic, jealous sister and a group of loser friends from his past ;) everyone's got some of those, right? Really looks like it has some potential to be a good new show!!

The Bank Job (2008)

Better than expected with (as expected) lots of gratuitous nudity
23 August 2008
Warning: Spoilers
I really had no desire to see this movie as the previews just didn't do anything for me (though I am a big fan of Jason Stratam). My fiancé, on the other hand, is a sucker for any true stories, so we picked up the DVD. I was not expecting to like it at all, but the storyline was good, it was easy to follow, the characters were likable (or not, as appropriate!), and the action was good. I was not impressed by the apparent stupidity of the robbery crew (for example, having dinner delivered to the "job site", their overuse of the radios and most of all, their decision to take a NAP after they broke through the vault and then sticking around for so long after the robbery when they knew things the cops were on to them). Additionally, their was quite a bit of gratuitous (ie, senseless) nudity, which, as a woman, just made me roll my eyes. I understand that sometimes nudity is important to a plot, but I don't need to see 40 sets of breasts to understand that they're in a brothel.

Overall, it was an enjoyable movie and worth the $14.99 for the DVD. :)

Not your typical chick flick
23 August 2008
This is one of my favourite movies: great cast (prior to this, I was *not* a fan of Christina Appelgate or Selma Blair, but now I really appreciate their art and their humour, they were hilarious!), great story line and completely different from all stereotypical chick flicks (I love how it portrays women! It's about time they show that women are not so different than men in some regards: most just want to have a good time and enjoy their sexuality). My fiancé and every other guy I know who has seen this has loved this movie as well: it is full of beautiful women and loads of hilarious and pretty raunchy moments. This is a fantastic, fun movie that I watch regularly on DVD (recomment the unrated version!) and whenever I catch it on TV as well.

Full Circle (1996 TV Movie)

Nothing like the book, what a disappointment
23 August 2008
Warning: Spoilers
I have read Danielle Steel's Full Circle several times (in two languages :)!) and really enjoyed it so when I saw in on TV I was excited about seeing it (though as a rule, I am generally disappointed by novels-turned-movies). The movie **barely** followed the story line of the book-- it was set in a different time period (80s vs the 60s--I think it was the 60s anyway but definitely not the 80s), characters who I felt were important to the story were not introduced or in some cases even mentioned (notably her college friend Sharon Blake and the experiences with her family), Harry's injury was incurred in a completely different manner than in the book and some of the ideas in the book were kind of twisted out of proportion (for example, in the book, after Tana's rape, when she tells her mother, she doesn't believe her and says that she never wants to hear her say anything else about it... in the movie, it was portrayed that she believed her, though in shock of course, but never wanted her to tell anyone). Things like this really ruined this movie for me (as well as the poor acting, naturally). I stopped watching after the first 45 minutes.
