Very Personal Movie
20 December 2014
Your life will most likely determine whether or not you like this film, whether or not it moves you.

I read the book and was not sure how they were going to make such an introspective novel into a movie but they did a pretty good job. My group of friends had mixed reactions, some of us were deeply moved (myself included) some where wondering why we were...

I felt the way her story was portrayed in flashbacks was very effective and about the only way to tell this story. It can never be as deep as the emotions in the book and it had to skim over a lot but still, for me and others I was with it was very powerful.

On a superficial side note... I wish she had looked dirtier. Her hair and clothes always looked too clean for what she was doing with very minimal hygiene.

Bummer

Wow. This was certainly disappointing. In fact, I'd say, it needed a script. Haha.

Loved the dance numbers, however I had seen SO much of them on previews and shows promoting this film, there was very little left to add. But, that said, they were still fabulous.

Other than that it was too slow, pretty boring, and I didn't care what happened to the main characters (except Luisa) because you either knew nothing about them, or they were not likable anyway. Looked forward to seeing this for months. :(

Really disappointing.

Some great writing, some bad

Warning: Spoilers
As a widow at 38, remarried to a widower, we watched this movie with interest. Some of the writing was right on, and consequently very hard to watch. The shower scene in particular, very emotional, very well done.

Some of the storyline did not make sense though, namely the scars on the daughter's face and why the mother didn't know where they were from, which led to the 'committed' scene, which was unnecessary. As was the 'lithium' plot line. Lithium? Come on.

As far as the ending, not so great. Just stupid. A real let down. Seriously, how long has "car stalls" been used in movies? What an easy way out that dumbed down the whole movie.

But one line is poignantly true.... "We're running out of time!" Live by it.

Nothing but Okay

I had a hard time caring about whether these two got together or not, as they just didn't MAKE me care that much. And it had nothing to do with the fact that they were two males, I've felt lack of chemistry/caring in male/female roles sometimes as well. I just didn't find it believable.

I really wanted Heath Ledger to spit out the marbles he must have been carrying around in his mouth the whole time, I don't know who came up with that 'accent' for him, but it was annoying and made it hard to understand him.

The cinematography was great. All in all, an okay movie, not great, not awful, I'd hate to see it win a bunch of awards simply for the subject matter.

Jaw Dropping??

Well, yeah, if you count Naomi Watt's open mouth through the entire movie.... I just wanted to reach up and snap it shut for her. She had one look that she used for almost everything. The woman can act, but you wouldn't know it by this movie.

Too long, and overkill on practically every scene (how many creepy crawlies do we NEED??) Really disappointing.

I was sure that it was an Adrian Brody lookalike, as surely, he couldn't actually be IN this movie???

Kong himself was great, enjoyable to watch. The rest of the movie... a waste.

The constant screams, grunts and gasps for three hours sounded like one very long sex scene. At least that would have been interesting...
