Toilet - Ek Prem Katha (2017)
Indian cinema in a sorry state.
Well, the movie started at 1436 hrs and the director started to portray the theme to us after 2 hours into the movie. The summary of the first 2 hours of the movie is, (20 comedy punches+ 4Songs + NOTHING). Apart from the comic timings of a few scene, there was nothing in the first 2 hours of the movie. Yes, Bhumi was splendid along with Anupam, Sudhir, and Divyendu. But everything else about the movie stinks just like the title of the movie.
You'll yawn throughout the movie if you're not intimidated by cheap jokes. This movie could've been made into a 1.5 hours flick, and if that was the case the rating would have shot from 1* to 7*. But the director wished to show a movie, 2.5 hours long, which is busy pushing the propaganda of the government. Yes! You heard me right. In this movie, you'll see that the Canadian National lead actor, Akshay Kumar has praised government directly or indirectly many times (20 minimum). And towards the end of the movie, they stooped so low that they called the step of De-monetisation by Narendra Modi, a success. The whole theater was laughing at that moment. I had to come out of the movie and had to check that whether the Indian Government was the official partner of the production unit. Because this movie served it's purpose very well.
Anyways, this movie served the nation pretty well. In the times of fake news and forced illiteracy, this movie will be pushed. Also, there's a nationalistic wave after Indians got its Right Wing Government, so people will love to watch this movie, over and over again. For the love of India, for the love of the government.
If I weren't a movie critic, I'd have walked out of the theater in the first half, but I stayed and gave 1* rating for the enlightenment of fellow readers.
Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani (2013)
A very badly directed, and a poor screenplay.
Bah! What a shame. First things First. What made me go to this movie.
1. The publicity and the hype that was created around this movie's release. 2. Good(looking)Star cast.
The start was not bad. Ranbeer was responding to all the responsibilities that the director thrown at him, but the moment Deepika started to speak, I knew that the movie was over. I thought at first that a few pages were torn from the Dialogue Diary. The "too much filminess" of this movie might make you feel like you're being robbed of the ticket price that you've paid. Well there are a few movies with too predictable ending, but a simple story with this type of lame direction is just below average. Kalki saved a little grace, if it wasn't for her I wouldn't have been writing this review.
2 stars for
1. Kabira. 2. Kalki and ranbeer.
rest 8 stars the movie didn't deserve
Salaam Bombay! (1988)
A movie to be remembered for ages.
This movie is by far the best movie that I've seen ever in my life. Complete in every sense, it makes quite a heavy impact. I wan only 2 when this was released, and after looking at it's quality of cinematography still beats the best of new age cinemas. The amount of dedication by the actors, and the entire team is so huge that it reflects in every second as the movie passes by. Especially the acting by 'Chillam' and 'Chaipaao' is mind blowing. It's nearly impossible to explain in words to explain this movie. So go ahead and watch it. I made at least 20 people to watch this, and everyone had the same attachment with this one as i have.
Love.
The Prestige (2006)
A movie that keeps you hooked to your seat till the last minute.
This movie was quite different from the kinds Hollywood is making all these days. First things First, it was quite a confusing at the start. but each and every minute of this will be worth watching after you reach the end of this movie. the cast was very cleverly selected and the best part of this was the fusion of conventional magic with the science. the best part of this movie was of course it's PRESTIGE, the term coined by magicians for the ending of any trick. every minute of this drama is put down in black and white towards the last 10 minutes of the movie. the twins, the fingers been cut, generation of clones through TESLA's machine, killing the original performer every night. it was fun watching this. overall i would rate this movie at 8.5/10. well a deduction of 1.5 points because there were some things which could have been less complicated.
Troy (2004)
Academy awards disappointed the biggest movie of this century.
well, this was the movie i'd watched when i was 17, and in this 5 years, i've watched this flick at least 20 times. a gem of it's class. every part of this movie was unique in it's own. the music, the set, the walls, ships, clothing, and brad Pitt. he was probably at his best in that movie. all the scenes were imprinted in the viewers' when i walked out of the theater after watching this. the scene in which the fleet of ships was shown was my one of the top favorite scenes of this one. i'd expected some 30 of maximum 100 ships. whoa! they were 1000 in numbers. and it showed in a such a perfect manner, that how the Trojans used to fight, the Greeks. nothing less than a 10 on 10 from me. a must watch for all no matter young or old. some movies are remembered through ages, this is one of them. this will be among your best too, after you watch it.
