The Kite Runner (2007)
One of the Better Film Adaptations
I read The Kite Runner novel earlier this year and I was really moved by the story. This is a film adaptation worth watching. It is very close to the book, though the book was more in-depth and had stronger language. The Kite Runner tells the story of Amir, an Afghan man whose childhood friend, Hassan,is raped by bullies and doesn't do anything to help him. He later moves to America when the Russians invade Kabul. As an adult, Amir returns to Kabul to find Hassan's orphaned son. I will not go into specific detail, but the story is very emotional and very well thought out. I am really not a huge fan of film adaptations, especially those based on video-games, as they completely change the original plot, but The Kite Runner has very minor differences from the book. I loved the film, but I especially dig the book for its addictive, yet touching narrative. I will give this film a 9 out of ten for sticking to the original story, but they did certainly tone it down and remove some plot elements.
OVERALL: A magnificent piece of work worth watching, but grab the novel first for the larger storyline and more mature themes.
Rainbow Six: Vegas (2006)
Best Rainbow Six Game Ever?
Rainbow Six: Vegas is fantastic, from beginning to end. I got this game for my PlayStation 3 last year and it look me a long while to beat. I hadn't really played a Rainbow Six game since Rogue Spear. I especially like the cover system, rappel, and helicopter sequences.I have not played this game online, but the single player alone is awesome enough. The game is worth buying. The best parts were casino missions. (The Vertigo Casino is my favorite, rappeling down the side of the building and breeching in and into a heavy gunfight). I recommend this to anyone into first-person shooters. I have to say, though,it is VERY, and I mean VERY hard. I am on my second play-through and really struggling. I will not mention the story as I do not want to spoil anything for those who have not yet experienced it. It is a lot better than Call of Duty 4 in my opinion. The graphics are good but the replay value is not as worthwhile as the sequel. Try it even if you're not familiar with the Rainbow Six series. Besides the online and story mode, there is also "Terrorist Hunt." This is a recommendation that you try Terrorist Hunt if you are new to Rainbow Six. I'll give it a solid 10 out of 10 for excellence!
