Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End (2007)
A tragedy
It's a tragedy: Another case of wrecking a very good movie with a poor second and a poor third part of the story! I hope my abilities of writing in English are sufficient to express what I want to say - they wanted too much. Obviously, the writers wanted too much. This story is much too complicated! And also it is too serious. This kind of seriousness does not compare to the whole story. It does not suit the story. That's why it has lost the charisma of the first part. As far as the first part is concerned, the writers did a very, very good job. Now it seems to me, as if they were experimenting with telling a story. Johnny Depp is great, as he always is, but it seems to me, even he could have been better - he acts as if he was forced to slow down. But there was a big surprise: Keira Knightly. I did't know she is such a good actress.
Mononoke-hime (1997)
One of my favorite films
This movie is one of my favorite films, - in my opinion, it is nearly perfect. (Maybe it IS perfect. I don't know.)And it should not be called a "movie about the conflict between humans and nature". Nobody calls a wedding - pie "some flour". - This is not a movie, but an event. I don't know if "silence" is shown in any other movie, like it is shown in that ancient wood. Watching the film, you f e e l this silence. - I also liked the details - the plants, for example! Or the stones getting wet when the rain starts to fall. It is one of those few movies which can change the people who watch it. You can enjoy being in a wood in a new way, after watching this film. - By the way - The "Emishi"- people really existed, and they were not the "Ainu". I heard, they lived in Hokkaido, too. Maybe they did not only ride on deers with funny tails, but also invented some of the excellent Japanese pumpkins??
Thicker Than Blood (1998)
Very realistic
This is a good movie, a realistic one; does anybody know where I can get the DVD? I will never understand why German TV - journals always write the worst things about this movie (...which is called in Germany "DANGEROUS KIDS-HIGHSCHOOL OF HOPE" - isn't that a stupid name for a film!!). Maybe it is because they don't like to see Mickey Rourke as a clergyman. This is so stupid: Finally, he is an actor, and a good one, at any rate. It is as stupid as if a journal magazine would condemn a movie because Will Smith has a serious part to play. I believe, those writers never really had a look at that film by themselves. - By the way, I liked the end of the movie, although it is sad, because that's the way such things happen in real life.
