This movie is about a small group of strangers who become trapped together and social degradation occurs over the course of the movie.
The only part of this movie I found interesting was the armed people in white suits that stole children. This was never explained or really had any real role in the plot. It seemed to exist only as a tool to trap the characters in (and maybe to serve as an excuse for the mother's later actions), since the fact a nuclear bomb went off and going outside would mean death apparently wasn't enough.
My main issue with this movie (other than the lack of a compelling plot) was the utterly stupid and unreasonable characters. There was never a voice of reason when disputes occurred. No thought or logic was really applied by any of the characters to the reality of their situation other than Mickey initially showing some signs that he recognized supplies were finite (albeit in a way that only served to antagonize everyone else). No escape attempts or ideas to better their situation as well as the inability to get through an apparently wooden door with an axe because it's "locked".
If the men in the white suits were soldiers (though they could have been scientists), they were made unrealistically stupid as well. They were apparently only interested in the child and didn't just open fire once they had her. Instead they gave the people a chance to run and didn't pursue them in any logical manner. Shooting at the air and ignoring the screams of the people they meant to be shooting at right next to them. Any trained solider would have made light work of these untrained and unarmed civilians. Also, when the guy ventures into their lab there appears to be no security protocol at all. Eventually he was found out after he'd already walked around looking really perplexed and out of place and seen everything because he wasn't Asian like his ID tag. Then the white suit guys gave him little resistance as he ran away and only bothered welding them in rather than actually dealing with them.
The rape and gore neither bothered nor interested me. If you want shock value, check out something like August Underground's Mordum.
In the end, this movie is just time, stupid characters, gore, rape, and stereotypes. The black guy dies first (out of the group of adult survivors).
